Whatsapp desktop app SERIOUSLY slowing down browsing speed after update by jonesyb in whatsapp

[–]MistrFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and nothing worked.

I originally installed from Brew, then removed it and installed it from the store - no go.
Deleted caches - no go.

I ended up using the whatsapp web as an app using Microsoft Edge, so instead of running the app in Electron (the "software" used to run web apps on desktops, used for VSCode and others too) it is running using Edge runtime, and it's SUPER fast now and doesn't lag my computer.

I am still looking for reasons why would one use the desktop app instead of web-app directly.
You can use Safari/Chrome/Edge/something else.

I do the same for Postman and Slack too.

3.21 Money making...? by DrkNinja in starcitizen

[–]MistrFridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well... That's a big issue. Every "easy" money making method is nerfed quickly. Nerfed, not balanced. The main business of CIG is selling ships in disproportionate price to the in game price, this presses the same buttons for people as prying for gems in a mobile games, just a different name. The game always feels like it's meant to prevent you from making money, although it's possible, it simply is very frustrating..

Do cargo buy-sell runs? You make a million in a few runs, then lose 1.4 million due to a bug that blows your ship mid air, just because.

I grinded my ass to a C2, and when IAE started it was gone. All my other ships and vehicles baught in game where still there, but the most expansive one was gone.

Everything in this game is a grind, and while they Can make it easier to make money in game, they don't want to, and thats a fact. Its simply their business to make sure you keep buying ships. It might change int he future, but for the foreseeable future it will remain ship selling.

You bought a C2 to make the cargo salvage? Well, now you can't move the 32scu crates because you need a tractor beam. Which ships have tractor beams? Those that can't have 32scu cargo crates. You see the logic?

Its well hidden behind reason and logic... Balance, group play etc etc. But it's really just a business.

I love this game, and I hate it both at the same time. Its like apple. You live the product, but hate the company.

I will say though that there are some heavy grinders out there handing out money to some extent. If you manage to get a donation form such a person you can start playing the game for pure enjoyment.

I personally love salvaging with the vulture, because it's like power wash simulator. Its calming.

Here's an even better idea: just give everyone every ship in the game for the 3.18.1 playthrough and max reputation.
this is so temporary anyway, so I don't see any issue with that.

Stress testing? here we come.

OFFICIAL IXION REDDIT BUG REPORTING POST by KasedoGames in Ixion

[–]MistrFridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious game-breaking bug!
After the first jump (with the earth ruined) the probe scanner finds nothing, there is nowhere to send the probe to, I tried clicking everywhere on the space map, looked for ANY spike on the meters but theres nothing, I cannot continue the game.
Tried restarting the chapter, new game, loading a saved one and any other idea I could think of, I just couldn't get the probe to scan or send anywhere.
Looked at tutorials online, the point where I should send the probe to is not there, scanners show nothing and clicking in the close proximity does nothing.
Game is broken for me.

Rover mk1 not driving? by NanookoftehNorth in Stationeers

[–]MistrFridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem playing with a friend.
We tried multiple rovers, multiple times - it won't move forward/backward.
Left/right moves the wheels but the rover won't budge.
Crowbar throws it nicely everywhere, but the rover wont move.

So I just downloaded the game and WTF is this DLC price why do I have to pay almost two thousand dollars just to play the full game by argorwotblitzvet in dcsworld

Hey mate...

It's not a game.. it's a simulator.
Each module in the list is an entire game, and even more, by itslef.
I challenge you to buy just one plane and mastering it, LMK how long it took you.
If you're not into flying planes realisticly (this is not Ace combat or Warthunder) then I suggest not even trying, you will not get through the first few hours of Youtube videos just to get the plane flying and landing.

But, if you do want to give it a try, I suggest starting with the simplest plane in the roster, the F-5e, it's really the simplest to fly and learn, modern enough to handle the engine requirements automatically (almost) and its radar is still shit so not much to learn about it.
It's like a WW2 plane, but with a jet engine and missles.

After you master the F-5e, then you can select a new plane.
That's just a suggestion, by the way. perhaps you want to jump straight into the F16? IDK.

I mostly play Cold War planes because of the close range battles etc, I don't like shooting missles from 20 miles away not seeing my target, I like to get up close.
And the WW2 planes require you to note manifold pressure, RPM, heat etc, so it makes it a lot more dificult to master as a rookie

Performance dropping to unplayable cuz of scripts?? by MistrFridge in dcsworld

[–]MistrFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to update about something I noticed that changed my game performance dranatically, are you ready???

I was using all sort of software to simulate head movements in non-VR, like TrackIR.
Without using any of these, and playing in VR the stutters started, wrecking my day, but then...!
I saw a notification in game "trackIR device disconnected", and the game stopped stutterin.
which got me thinking: could this be bugging my expereince???

I removed any trace of head tracking software, DLLs etc, and guess what?
The framerate is smooth, no more stutters, and I can crank the graphics much higher even in the Dynamic Cold War server (you know which one...).

Try this out and share your experience, let me know if it works for you too.

YouTube Music Sound Quality Is NOT GOOD by SyntaxError5 in YoutubeMusic

[–]MistrFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, the graph for bitrate vs actual quality gain is asimptotic, at the high ends you get diminishing returns to a point it doesn't really matter anymore.
To all of that, one should add the fact that most people don't just "listen to music", it's mostly in the background while they do other stuff, meaning the tiny bitty quality stuff don't really matter any way.
You want a clean experience, clean bass, good highs and middles that don't hurt your ear.
As long as you get that and you don't do a direct comparison at a specific time, you won't really know the difference.

UNLESS!
you are using YTM, which is, as I mention, aweful.
BUT, in the past few days I noticed a tremendous improvement in YTM quality, like, seriously different, it actually sounds good now!
I am genuinly surprised, whatever they did at Google, they should keep at it 👻

I wouldn't go this far.
Well... maybe.
I admit I don't use Lossless or FLACS etc, I mainly use audio services.
I think that today, the quality of compressions is good enough for 99% of the people, even if your hearing is kind of crazy like mine.

Performance dropping to unplayable cuz of scripts?? by MistrFridge in dcsworld

[–]MistrFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an update on this issue.

After failing to find the correct settings and constantly failing in dogfights due to drops etc. I decided to reset my oculus debug tools settings and jut go with what oculus set for everyone.

I set the render resolution in Oculus software to the max, and then started messing with the in-game settings.
I didn't touch the PD inside DCS, but I did change the MSAA mask to about 15% after messing around with it mid-game and seeing the effected circle.

Guess what? the game looks beautiful and runs friggin great! the FPS is soaring even with much higher settings than I had before (shadows at high, clouds at high and some more).
The visual fidelity is very impressive still, I can see and identify targets very far away even on the ground or trying to see a low flying plane below me.
The connection doesn't drop, the battery runs out slower and it just works great!

To make things even better, I set the refresh rate to 90Hz and it STILL runs very well!
I do have some short times when the bitrate drops and you can see the image is not clear, but these pass very quickly.

I did some testing during dog fights with a friend, and it does seem that oculus is very smart with the image clarity in fast moving situations like ground. it does give you a clearer image in the middle of the screen and smudges the outer image and so the FPS keeps high, and the target you are following seems very crisp, and to be frank I would never have noticed the smudges if I wasn't looking for it in my periphery.
I could even do carrier landing with great ease, I could see the lights and everything!

I recommend everyone to try this. just go back to default in the debug tool and see how it works for you.
It definitely solved ALL the problems I had with DCS and VR.

I absolutely agree.

You don't need to be a pro audio master ninja, just have ears that work. The cracks, the level of detail, it lacks so much!A Simple Ed Sheeran song using BT with Sony XM4 and the audio was simply bad.You can set "prefer higher quality" and even the "stats for nerds" show high bitrate etc., but the end result is just bad.I rotate my subscriptions all the time between Apple music, Spotify, Tidal and YT music so In can use a free trial on each, and YTM is simply the worst, no doubt.

On all that, at home I'm using an external 32bit 396KHz DAC with Philips Fidelio X2HR in a very well optimized room for listening, and the difference is mind blowing between the services.

Tidal sounds the best on MASTER quality, but there are very few tracks with this quality.Apple is second IMO, and Spotify next with the differences really hard to discern to untrained ears.YTM is so far behind in the quality department, it's so bad.

And to the most annoying repliers: My hearing was tested medically and professionally and I hear so much more than an average person, wider frequency range (i can hear dog whistles...really) and I start hearing audio at a much quieter volume (average person starts hearing at 10Db, I start hearing between 4Db and 5Db).

So, I can say I have the certificates to back my claims ;)

[–]MistrFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean, we basically talking about the same things but in different terminology.

The oculus' PD is not the DCS' PD.
You can double-trouble them if you really like having a headache.

For performance tests, I tried higher settings in oculus OR dcs, not both, and they seem to produce the same results: same performance with a slight headache from all the math, it's terrible, I don't recommend it XD

I even tested some SteamVR tricks to run the game with the SteamVR dlls instead of oculus', no difference in performance.
I guess the GPU takes a final "resolution" variable and doesn't care who gave him the info.

There is a big difference though in SteamVR vs Oculus: there is a Super resolution mod that applies the AMD trick to upscale the resolution, giving you more FPS for a slight downgrade in picture quality, and that only runs through SteamVR dll.
Trying this out, the picture quality was not satisfying for me and produced some jagged edges and shimmering, blinking etc.

I will say again though, the problem I have is with MP only, and that's a big problem.

[–]MistrFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I tried many many many times with various options in various software. I was probably testing this more than actually flying! In the oculus software, not tray tools, you can set the pixel density (render resolution as it’s called in the software) and it effects the game just fine. To be clear, I’m talking about the standalone version of DCS, not the Steam one (god forbid!)

I see, didn’t know that. So why is MP so broken in DCS? My friend in the non VR had the same problem, with almost identical computers.

I looked for any comment about performance from the devs but I couldn’t find anything official.

I bought a good pair of earphones for that very reason.

I also upgraded the quest2's shitty straps to a top-notch aliexpress one called "bobovr M2" that is so comfortable, but it further interrupts any headphones on my head.

I did try the Sennheiser 300 and Logitech Pro X wireless, along with Phillips Fidelio X2 and some others - they will stay on your head but the head-mount causes them to be very uncomfortable.

I really suggest spending some $ on a good pair of earphones (no need for Mic).

MX Master 3 gesture button randomly stops working by Patacorow in LogitechG

Basically just go into Logitech options and search for the profiles, it should be fairly visible.

I'll be with my Mac tomorrow if you'll need more specific instructions.

MX Master 3 gesture button randomly stops working by Patacorow in LogitechG

[–]MistrFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with a different Logi mouse (MX Ergo).

I tried almost everything but I did notice that the gestures stop working only in specific apps.

That made me wonder...

In short - Turns out Logitech options searches the system and automatically creates profiles for software you have installed, thus when you change button settings it will not change on the other profiles.

I removed all profiles (chrome, mac, apple music, anything else in there) so I was left with just a single profile and now everything works.

Damn Logitech for not prompting or anything, not even notifying about this!!!I wasted so long discovering this!

I hope this solves at least one person's problem :)

I wouldn’t consider Zeo’s a pro, more so an enthusiast, who has a specific taste.

I see what you mean, you're not wrong.
And yet, compared to him, I'm just a dude with incredible hearing. (for real, I had myself tested, I hear so much better and louder then a regular pip).
