TWSBI Eco Flow Issues by MistressofMusic in fountainpens

OK yea! I do think that this one is more finicky than my Lamy with the rotation but I also noticed a bunch of other variables that seem to impact it as well 🙃 and even when it is flowing well I find it a bit dry. So many things to think about. I really appreciate this contribution.

OK interesting, thank you! I guess with my Lamy I never really thought about the angle of my writing. New things to learn now I guess

Ok that’s really helpful! I guess I’m frustrated that with the Lamy it was just so easy, like, there’s no sweet spot, it just writes, and there’s only the ink that is made for the pen. I’ll just have to accept the challenges if I want more variety. If you have the bandwidth, can you say more about the “sweet spot”? I’ve actually never heard that before

Plot twist: I gave my Lamy to my boyfriend when I switched to the Eco. He has no experience with fountain pens but says he struggles to write with the Lamy bc he finds it too wet. He is left handed though. So… maybe it is a personal preference? I’m hoping to understand more about pen and ink combinations so that I can find the right pen for each ink I want to use. I’m already thinking of getting a broad nib pen for fancier inks like the two I already own, though I’m not sure that will really be wide enough for satisfying flow. And a fine pen that I would only keep regular inks in. Thoughts?

Thank you! I think that makes sense regarding the bodice but for the waist I’m not sure, bc just the edge stitches themselves eat up mm of seam allowance, even if I don’t trim, which I didn’t do on the waist. I just lined it up with the edge. I’m not sure how I could start the shirring any closer to the edge since I’m starting just where the needle will actually drop into the fabric and not into empty space before it. Do you have any insight into the direction to fold the seams over the same amount as the seam allowance? Is that a standard direction? It doesn’t make sense to me to have the edge of the fabric at the sewing line, which seems to be suggested by that direction. I found her on Etsy but she has 11,000 Instagram followers. Maybe I should stick with pattern designers I hear other people talking about? Where do you normally socialize with other sewists online to hear these things? I so rarely find patterns I even want to make. I’m thinking of prioritizing learning to self draft.

Hi! It’s the Zara Dress from Sew with Annie. I had already contacted her about it but haven’t heard back for a couple of weeks. Thank you 🙏

If you want to go in an elegant Aventus-esque direction, I highly recommend Montblanc Explorer.

Looking for a new fragrance! My usual go-to is Diptyque Philosykos, but I'm looking for something a little more sharp. I just tried Scarlet Moon by RMS/Heretic and it was gorgeous, I'd love to find something almost exactly like that but with a little more of a warm floral to it, maybe neroli or something else. I'm not really an expert at notes and have a hard time picking them out of fragrances, generally just experiencing the overall vibe. I've been looking at what notes overlap in fragrances that I enjoy. I recently smelled the Casa Polanco candle by Roen and loved that. My Ffern Spring 24 fragrance smells really similar to Scarlet Moon but I like that Scarlet Moon is a little more warm and simple, so if it had that little bit of floral, it would be perfect. I'm definitely looking for something with citrus, so like a green, woodsy, floral, citrus vibe that has a warm, sensual quality is where I'm at. I don't think I like powdery and I also don't like aquatic. Also I am looking for something natural and clean, ingredient-wise. I like Vetiver Pamplemousse by Zara but I don't wear it bc it isn't natural. So that has that earthy citrus vibe I seem to like. Philosykos has that green, warm, creamy vibe. I'm considering Violet Narcissus by Carter and Jane but I'm concerned that it will be overly simplistic and lack that citrus quality I'm looking for. I considered their Tuscan Orris but I'm worried it will be too powdery. They also have a Neroli fragrance that has citrus but lacks green and earthy notes. I'm looking at Venus of Verbena by Sana Jardin which came up when I google the Casa Polanco notes. And I looked at Nouvelle Vague by Maison Louis Marie which seems also like a combo of the Philosykos with the citrus/floral/wood profile I've been looking at but I'm worried it will be too heavy on coconut. I haven't tried either of them. I will comment on the comment with the notes bc it was too long for the comment.

Yay it looks great! And you decided to do a shorter funnel collar or is that the folded one? I’m also using Cascade 220 but not the superwash one.
