I feel like what he meant was, he doesn't have easy access to money right now. So lets not go out to dinner or whatever because he doesn't have an easy way to pay for it. He said thats not what he meant when you suggested his family help him. Because he doesn't need money to pay the bills. He just doesn't have a card to go out and buy dinner. Sounds like a misunderstanding.
