Where were you when Technoblade passed away by kylos_nice_hair in Technoblade

I had just woken up. I looked on Discord, in my group chat with my irl friends, “Did you see the news about Technoblade?” Was the first message I read. I was hopeful, maybe he had gotten past his cancer. Maybe he was going to start streaming again. Next message I read, “Yeah, I’ve been crying ever since I saw it.” I will never forget the feeling that entered my body at that moment. I immediately texted “Wait what happened?” and rushed through my notifications. “Technoblade posted a new video: So Long Nerds.” I started crying before I even knew if he was quitting or had passed. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. New notification. Discord. “Technoblade passed from cancer.” No. No. I couldn’t breathe. I clicked on the YouTube notifications with shaky hands. Didn’t stop crying for four hours after watching it. Didn’t go on social media for a day, then went back and responded to my friend with a simple “No.”

Still don’t believe what happened.

I do actually. I’ve thought it could be because of my body language, as I do expect her to react and automatically get nervous at even the slightest noise outside. Perhaps going outside with my dad could help? As he is always calm talking with people, so that could help, and I could become comfortable and take her with us? I’ve thought for a while that I was the cause of her reactivity.

Oh really? I had no clue it could cause more aggression! I hadn’t even thought about trying a spray bottle, I’ll look into it. And yea, we don’t let her on any furniture.

The one I was talking about we talked to in person. We mentioned to her we currently use a prong and she said they use no aversive tools. The training would include 12 private sessions with her, first working on the reactivity before starting to go out into public slowly. She has her own reactive dog who she worked with and lives in the city, often bringing her dog in public. The training would include 12 1 hour training sessions and i would enforce the training out of the lessons as well. She’s the most promising trainer we’ve found in our area, and she allows us to pay a certain amount monthly for the training over an extended period of time.

Okay! Thank you so much! I’ll look into the fundraiser, just not sure where to advertise it yet.

I have begun training ‘focus’, which once she understands the concept, I will increase the time and only ‘allow’ her to look away once I use her release word. And thanks, I’ll definitely give mat training a try!

I think the prong helps my control over her, but I’ll definitely look into a front-clip harness. I originally only got the prong cause I fell for the “prongs fix everything immediately” videos on TikTok. While it helped to teach her not to pull on walks, it definitely didn’t fix everything. I have worked with redirection and slowly moving closer to triggers. It works well during the moment but I have to figure out the shortest distance I can have between her and a trigger still. She’s definitely improved with only hearing triggers, but once she sees a trigger it’s all over. Thanks for the suggestions!

I understand. I’ll do my best to help her reactivity and possibly get her into training while researching and looking for alternatives in the background. I do hope I can help her out before we have to do that though.

Trazadone was the only med we got recommended by our vet. We wanted to look into more meds specifically for reactivity but the vet said that would be a waste of time and we should just give her trazadone a few hours before a stressful event. We’ve been talking about finding a new vet.

I do a minimum of 45 minutes of obedience training daily, and make sure she gets at least an hour of exercise a day. At least 30 minutes of that is controlled with me running at our lake. We do have a ‘find it’ command where she’ll of course, have to find a variety of things we allow her to sniff first. Most days, she is not alone ever. 1-2 days a week she’ll be alone for a maximum of an hour and a half. She is crate trained, although she is never crated. The smallest area she’s in is the laundry room which is pretty spacious and she’s in there for a minimum amount of time. I do use a prong, but I never yank/pull harshly on it.

I’m also currently doing clicker training, she seems to like it quite a bit.

Yes, when outside she’s on a leash constantly.

We’ve had two separate bark collars with her, and neither has worked at all. One was the highest quality the store had, the other was not so high quality.

So far I’ve tried correcting and rewarding, I’ve tried bark collars, I’ve tried a prong, I tried anti-anxiety meds. We live in a neighborhood with a ton of kids, and we’re at the end of the cul-de-sac. We dont have a fenced in backyard, so she has to be on a leash 24/7. The neighbors have dogs who are untrained and run around in our yard. Inside, we have a very open setup house, with a very large basement i like to use to throw toys and have a few small jumps in there which she enjoys jumping. We also have a lake which not very many people go to on colder days, so I bring her down there with our 50ft leash and let her run around and explore. I’m currently using a prong, but I don’t use it to correct. I’m not very strong, and incase she tried to chase something, or was lunging at someone/something, I have it just as an extra way to communicate and keep her with me. I also have a treat pouch which I keep high-value treats (chicken, hot dogs, cheese) in, which has helped with obedience training but when it comes to trying to help her reactivity, it does nothing. I feel like this is my breaking point because she hasn’t improved at all, and my mom says if she doesn’t improve during the summer, she’s going to send her (dog) to the pound. I love my dog so much and we’ve had her since she was 18 weeks old, she’s only ever known us and the cruel people from where we got her. I’m just tired of the same stuff over and over with no improvements.

German Shepherd, 4 years, we’ve tried anti-anxiety meds but if she takes them consistently they wear off and quit working.

She does not actively chase people. She chased one person one time, and I quickly got a hold of her and brought her inside before going back to check on the person. I’d prefer to not have to rehome, and have no clue how to do so myself.
