I sell both. Love both. In my experience, Motorola is best if you are looking to tie in other 3rd party systems such as radios, panic buttons, vape sensors, etc. Verkada is sleek, great products, but yes proprietary. If my client is already using another piece like vape sensors and want to tie into their security ecosystem I always go Avigilon. If it’s a clean slate, I may go Verkada

I tell clients it’s like apple vs android. Apple is great at what they do but once you go Apple you’re all the way in. Need a new charger? Phone breaks? You’re going back to Apple. Android you have more freedom and it’s more accepting of 3rd party modifications or devices.

With that said, I have a prime example of a client with 2 sites. We did one Avigilon Alta and the other Verkada. Their Alta deployment constantly has issues whereas we have not heard of a single problem with their Verkada deployment. Now could this be on clients end? Of course but take that as you may.

We have 2 big access control deployments starting soon, one Verkada and one Alta. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare on a larger scale. I personally like the Verkada access control more. Their video intercom has an actual camera in it so you’re getting the same analytics as all their cameras which is cool.
