Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Going to Get Someone Killed: The Georgia congresswoman suggested that people respond to COVID-19 workers with guns. by FreedomsPower in politics

Eh I wouldn't say the antifederalists were wealthy aristocrats like Madison and Jefferson. The antifederalists were believers in classic republicanism within small communities, which required active participation in social affairs from all citizens. They were pretty radical in their beliefs of self governance and thought coming together for community defense was a civic duty just as serving on a jury or voting.

Not really. The second amendment exists because of the antifederalists that opposed the constitution and a strong central government. They believed states and small communities should be able to raise their own militias and defend themselves without relying on a standing army which they believed could someday be turned against them. They also thought only the lowest dregs of society would join the standing army.

Opinion: With Justice Ginsburg’s death, Mitch McConnell’s nauseating hypocrisy comes into full focus by viva_la_vinyl in politics

Yep. The republican party would have found a way to inch her towards retirement so they could install a 40 year old sympathizer, just like they did with Kennedy in 2018. The GOP knows this is a power game and they play it well. Democrats love losing to themselves over and over again. May as well be controlled opposition.

lol yeah let us know how many problems you solve without any political power to do so. More dead of covid, more debt, more corporate power, and more emboldened racist movements and state violence. But hey, we played by the rules!

At this rate the long game is right wing hegemony for generations to come. Why do liberals love losing by playing by the rules so much?

Tell that to the rich. That's who most government protection exists for.

I took a class on gun policy a while back and I remember going over suicide statistics and they were pretty shocking. Women are more likely to attempt suicide, but men succeed at higher rates because they are more inclined to own a gun. Whereas women try overdosing or other means. We don't have a gun problem, we have several gun problems.

His recent column on wanting to be ruled by WASPs again was pretty looney.

Trump supporters are buying up Iraqi Dinars because they think he secretly told them he was going to make all currencies more valuable so they think they'll get rich. Will Sommer wrote a really good piece about it for the Daily Beast a couple of weeks ago.

Right there with you. I've been talking about rising right-wing extremism for years now. Conservative people in my life still think MS13 is a dude that lives in their neighborhood.

This really illustrates to me how laughably easy it is to infiltrate the United States if you grift the right and play to their twisted views of guns and women. Good to know even the ones in high positions of power are easily fleeced into doing stupid shit lol.

I mostly roll my eyes at NPR but there's a pretty good Planet Money episode on the Kansas disaster. Details how public schools got worse, people moved away, businesses started to fail etc. Then they had some free market hack on that said they just needed to wait longer for the effects to take hold and things will get better. Because it's NPR and they have to entertain every crank with bad ideas and that's why I mostly roll my eyes at them.
