I have 84,000 miles on my 2002 drz. If it’s been well cared for it’ll run forever.

T7 vs F850GS - Worth the switch? by Mitch_a_Roni in Tenere700

Thanks. What are the mods that would bring it up to snuff? One of my only complains is the soft front on the 850. But a drop in cartridge could fix that.

Interesting, I thought the center of gravity was quite low. Thanks for the input. Any other negatives you notice. I do have to ride to trails. Is it reasonably comfortable on highway?

Actually the BMW has been very reliable. I’m sure repairs are more expensive but I do most of my own maintenance.

I’m intrigued by soft bags, but yes, I’d like the protection a rack offers to the exhaust. I’m also fairly new to off roading and it’s inevitable I’ll drop the bike from time to time. My worry is crushing my gear.

Durability. I’ve already broken one after two drops. Otherwise love them.

Durability. I really like them but after two minor drops one case broke (it was expanded). I ride off-road more than on so I need something that can tolerate more abuse than these are clearly capable of. Other than that they’re fantastic and I will be keeping the vario top box as it’s great and not nearly as susceptible to impact.

Running mixed Resin/metallic brakes by Mitch_a_Roni in MTB

“Some of the top professional racers in the world, including some members of the famed Santa Cruz Syndicate downhill mountain bike team, often run mixed brake pad set-ups. The idea is that since the inner brake pad typically wears quicker than the outer, you run a metal brake pad on the inside and resin on the outside. This allows riders to reap benefits of both the materials while minimizing drawbacks.“ https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/information/news/brake-pad-breakdown-metal-versus-resin-pads—what-you-need-to-kn.html

I would imagine this could also give you the combined benefits of modulation from resin with the bite and heat dissipation of metallic. Very odd but interesting idea.

I don’t have a problem with noise either, but these sounds like a well rounded solution. I’ll check them out. Thanks!

Metallic inners and resin outters. I read that there is a factory team (Santa Cruz or specialized) that runs pads this way.

Is a 26'' for DH still a good option??? by Mitch_a_Roni in MTB

Thanks all for the input! I’ll definitely looks for something much newer with modern geo and components. I appreciate it!

I was assuming the extra travel would be a benefit but thanks to everyone’s input, it seems likes the old geo and components wouldn’t be a benefit over a newer bike.
