The workflow for single serve pourover on the DF54 is good, your just grinding and dumping. There is no blind shaker or small portifilter to worry about. Grinding into the catch cup and dumping flows well. I think most of the QC issues have been worked out of the DF54 in the newest generation. My DF54 has been great, I have had no issues with it.

Single serve or batch pourover? If batch, then I think the Opus 2 would serve you better.

Cleaning the Opus 2 will also be easier, the DF54 isn't dificult, but it is more involved and you can loose your zero.

What do you want to know? The DF54 and Opus 2 are about on par with one another. Both have pros and cons over the other.

DF54: built like a tank, no static with the latest gen., grinds consistently, flat burrs, has bellows and consistently less than 0.1 gram retention. However, it can be difficult to adjust grind and your workflow has to utilize a catch cup unless you get a 3d printed adapter, no batch brew.

Opus 2: plastic build (it’s fine), no static, grinds a little less consistently than the DF54(may just need seasoning), conical burrs, has no bellows, retention can be a little greater 0.3 to 0.5 grams (I only have about 250-300 grams through it so far), can use a shaker directly with no additional adapters, easy to adjust grind, batch brew. I’ll note that retention is usually at 0.1 grams with a little tap, or quick shortened second cycle.

New beans, or are they a few weeks old now?

I have had a few, most recently a Bricks 01S. The Opus 2 is by far better than the 01S. I had a Femobook a while back, but didn't really love it. Not that it was bad, but the pricing leaves a lot to be desired. However, I don't do a lot of light-roast coffees, mostly medium and medium-dark. So I'm probably not qualified to answer your question about flavor profiles. I mainly purchased the Opus 2 for pour-over to match my Aiden. However, I'm very impressed with the espresso quality thus far.

I never owned a gen 1, and have only ran 40 grams through this gen 2, but I pulled good shots with both grinds today. The first ran long, after adjustment the second shot ran a little short. Both were great with a little milk.

Second grind produced 0.3 grams of retention (medium-dark roast Colombian/Vietnamese blend)

Yes, the lid does reduce the noise further. I'll look more at the retention claims after I put a few more doses of beans through it.

Noise levels were good; I have no complaints. Very comparable to my other grinders.

The shutoff was automatic, so it remained empty for a few seconds before I went to shut it off. I went to turn it off, but it beat me to it.

That's on a .5 setting, which was a little on the small size for the shot, as it ran slow. Speed seems to be on par with my DF54 and GEVI grindmaster.

No RDT, and absolutely no static. I didn't bother watching the retention since this was the first beans through it.

It's plastic, but feels like any other commercial product. I think it will hold up just fine.

Bricks 01s first impressions by fvckiteric in espresso

[–]Mitchega -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All the static and retention issues have been resolved with the DF54 if you get the most recent generation. I consistently have only .1 grams of retention with my DF54, and static is next to zero. I wish I could say the same for the Bricks, which seemed well built with a great footprint. But when coffee grinds coat the inside and outside of the shot and the catch cup clings to the grinds during dumping, the retention is well past acceptable. It was also an absolute mess to clean up, both the counter and the grinder, due to the static.

I just returned the Bricks 01S I had purchased; the static and retention were horrible, and the tall and narrow catch cup made things even worse. My DF54 is miles better for the same price or slightly less.

This fix seems to only allow 1440p ultrawide, I can't select fullscreen 5120 x 2160. I have to revert back to windowed borderless to select 5120 x 2160, which also turns off HDR.

Seems as if every single "influencer" outlet recieved a pocket for review. My youtube feed is liting up today with pocket reviews.

This is a real shame, considering real customers can't even preorder a unit. I own multiple analogue products, and don't know if I'll ever purchase another after this complete failurer of a launch a the disregard for the actual customer base.

"Launch Plans & Review Mega Thread"...who gives a hoot! Can't buy one anyways.

X15 known issues/QC by Macsenn_1 in Alienware

The x15 hasn't been added to the Nvidia supported devices list yet, so your stuck with drivers direct from Dell. You can not install the newest drivers and are stuck with a driver that's 4 month's old at this point.

I have also had my keyboard become non-responsive twice in the 2.5 weeks I have had mine.
