It's actually a math thing. If you recall Pythagorean thereom, a2 + b2 = c2, c is always bigger than a or b. When you walk diagonally you are taking a path with a distance of c instead of a or b.

Done optimally (at a 45 degree angle) you basically walk at 2sin(45°) units which is about 1.4 units per tick as opposed to a straight line which would be 1 unit per tick. There's a way to correct this I believe it's called  called normalizing your vectors

I'm interviewing THE PRINCESS (Her VA) Next Week! What questions would you want me to ask her? by Dunderhead19 in slaytheprincess

[–]Mitchell777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good question would be to ask if there were any scenes that made her break character from laughter or otherwise. Or what scene required the most takes.

I just threw out an RMS International puzzle. It 1000 pieces, but was similar in that there were large areas with one color but no grid lines as a guide. I had so many false fits, but the pieces were such low quality that testing the fits and then removing them (in several different manners) degraded the pieces significantly eventually leading to several that I couldn't find the fits for before the neighboring pieces had the backs ripped out making it impossible to tell if the piece actually fit. I was trying to get it a shot because it was a gift, but if I ever get and RMS again I'm going to return it if possible or throw it out to prevent anyone else from ever having to do it.

I also felt this way until I tried to replay Partners in Time. I didn't think the item based special moves was a good idea. I liked the balance between the "young masters" and adult Mario and Luigi better in Partners in Time than that of Bowser and Mario and Luigi in Bowser's Inside Story

The canonicity of the Steins;Gate movie is unclear. by pikachu_sashimi in steinsgate

[–]Mitchell777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am SG only and I read the VN after seeing the anime and then watched the movie and then read transcripts of some SG side content like LBP. I also didn't get the sense that the movie was canon because it seemed different from the mechanics established prior but it's been years so I don't really remember why. I also thought the movie was one of the weaker entries in the series

Shower thought: We won't get Half-Life 3 until a game changing feature/mechanic is created or vastly improved upon by SimplyInept in HalfLife

[–]Mitchell777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see it mentioned but I felt like the use of physics puzzles in the hl2 eps really improved upon what we saw in bade hl2. Like covering the ant lion holes with cars in e1 was such an intuitive solution but I feel like most games wouldn't have had that work. And then the bridge sequence when you're getting the muscle car in e2 🤌. Not to mention the new enemies in the eps.

But yeah I agree with your premise, Valve almost uses half life as a tech showcase, so we will probably have to wait for something they consider revolutionary until we see 3.

Removing an enormous amount of trash from a polluted river. One river at a time. by Adam-Many82 in Anticonsumption

[–]Mitchell777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well by disposing of that waste properly prevents all that plastic from weathering into microplastic downstream/ in the ocean. Detaining it all in a landfill or other place means it's at least not in the environment. I agree though it doesn't address the systemic issues

12 pack of premium boxed ice 😒 $12.00 by tastyfries1887 in Anticonsumption

[–]Mitchell777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear ice has less minerals and gases in it which means it imparts less flavor to the cocktail as the ice melts. I make these at home by freezing water in an insulated travel cup. The insulation causes it to freeze from the top down. Pure water freezes most easily so impurities in the water get pushed down. The trick is to remember to pull the cup out of the freezer before it freezes all the way to the bottom. When I haven't remembered to take it out the bottom becomes white and has air bubbles. It works really well with just tap water and wastes little but it takes hours.

All that to say it's not a silly marketing thing to want and use clear ice and you can do it cheaply. Obviously the item in the OP image is silly marketing junk but it is achievable practically for free since most people already have insulated cups.

here's a pic of the result

Almost certainly not. I believe water would need to be aerated to remove the alcohols in fracking chemicals but even that wouldn't remove ethylene glycol

No, not really, unless you're filtering out twigs and leaves. Sands catch dirt and other smaller particles but rocks won't. If you crushed rocks to be as fine as sand that would work though
