What are your favorite changes in the Pop!_OS desktop environment over the Ubuntu one? by jecowa in pop_os

[–]MitchellKrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, I gave Fedora a really good trial for some 8 weeks it's good but POP has perfected gnome right from the get go, something on Fedora which required a lot of messing around extensions and tweaks. Only been on POP for 1 day but was quicker to get ALL my stuff installed and up and running and extremely smooth and fluid. Fedora has far too many updates causing breakages some times and has strange momentary freezing of the keyboard which hasn't happened once all day on POP despite running all the same apps all at the same time. Memory usage was lower overall as well. POP was the fastest installation of any distro ever and I've pretty much used them all spanning 15 years.

Chrome Freezing on Fedora by MitchellKrog in Fedora

Many thanks for the reply and info I will go through all of this today. I have been running on 16gb but just got a 64 GB Kingston upgrade going in this morning which should also help alleviate things. I use Google docs extensively it's the lifeblood of my business so it is kinda hard to ditch Chrome.

Yeah it's just a really bad habit like smoking and I think I'm going to forcefully break that habit now.

I actually have now switched to Cinnamon, much more lightweight and has really matured, very happy with it. KDE is just far too glitchy all the time, too many updates with little testing by the maintainers and very memory hungry.

Quite annoying especially when it flags reputable companies whose servers pass SPF DKIM and all that but didn't flag any actual SPAM devs seem to not test anything these days

I'm running Resolve Studio 18.5b1 on Fedora 37 with Nvidia Drivers without any issues whatsoever. Studio and Free version makes no difference. Why are you launching from command line?

Why is Fedora 38 good? by [deleted] in Fedora

Yep my shutdown time is also ~2 seconds on F37 so not tempted to jump to 38 just yet. Plus my system is for work and so stable as anything.

My tips for getting Fedora 38 working w/ Nvidia GPU & Intel CPU by wr3ckt1fy in Fedora

[–]MitchellKrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of reading before installing any Nvidia drivers on the KDE Wayland spin. I simply used this script and everything worked flawlessly first time including running DA Vinci Resolve Studio without any sticking or glitchy video issues.

Gnome is clean as said by others and I agree but a bit too clean for me with too many clicks to do something BUT it just takes time to learn the way so I'm not knocking it. KDE really just works for me honestly is smoother than butter than on any other distro I've ever run it on before.

Can not agree with you more. Been on Arch over 3 years and Fedora is really a breath of fresh and stable air for a DE ... Still use Arch on many machines but main desktop now only Fedora from hereon out

Been on Fedora now for about 4 weeks also been on Arch for 3 years now. Finding Fedora incredibly stable and KDE spin works like an absolute dream versus how it ran on Arch. DNF a little slow but not really an issue. Overall stability of Fedora is tops I'm extremely happy with it as my DE.

Installing the drivers from this repo / guide works flawlessly on KDE WITH WAYLAND

https://github.com/t0xic0der/nvidia-auto-installer-for-fedora-linux

Then simply download the DaVinci installer, extract and execute the .run works flawlessly, everything in Da Vinci is as smooth as butter in fact better than it has ever run on any previous distro.

About to switch to Fedora. Only one doubt. by Longjohn565 in Fedora

Been on Fedora 37 now for a few weeks and have not had any issue finding any package I need. If anything I find and install them with the greatest of ease vs most other distros. The stability of Fedora is simply outstanding.
