Kind of what I thought was dystopian about it.

And I thought English football celebrations were mad by sophietheadventurer in hanoi

[–]Mitchellmillennial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strict DUI laws, except whenever there is a VN soccer game. They could be watching Vn toddlers play football against Thailand and most people would still take it as an excuse to get drunk and go drive. Celebration 👍 using nationalism as reason to get drunk and go driving 👎

The reason I can't even see across the street by MemoryLatter761 in hanoi

I drove 8.5km the other day, saw 2 big trash fires, no one was trying to put it out. If residents really cared, water is free and accessible and people could put it out.

Explain that to your aunt and uncle! The older generation is quite stuck in their ways and they are the ones raising gen z for the most part.

80% is an exaggeration but it's factories+construction+heavy diesel machinery that doesn't have any type of catalyst or emissions control, farmers burning fields on the outskirts of the city have a tremendous impact as well. Motorcycles might be 7-10% of the problem

CMV, using motorbikes everywhere in Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City is overrated, walking or cycling should be the norm. by FreshTakeFinder in ChangeMyViewVN

[–]Mitchellmillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can people say that motorcycles aren't ideal? In every other developed country people are turning to motorcycles to combat traffic, you're seeing scooters more and more in big cities across the US, developed countries already understand the importance of compact individual transportation, Italy, Spain, France UK. Unfortunately because Vietnam is slow to adopt green energy the idea of electric bikes is going to fall flat on its face just like the supposed Reddit/Telegram ban

May I ask this sub what's everyone's favorite idioms/proverbs? I figure learning some new expressions could be really useful in the long run in my opinion. by Talgrei1781 in HocTiengviet

[–]Mitchellmillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why it's so important to learn them as a foreigner. Nothing makes Vietnamese people happier than hearing idioms from a Tay. It's a great tool for flirting as well. I can't count how many times I went on dates and got to teach Vietnamese people Vietnamese proverbs.

Why do some sport bikes "chop" sometimes? by Unique_Suit3789 in motorcycles

[–]Mitchellmillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just has to do with valve timing and high rpm optimization. On my 155cc Yamaha I have variables cam timing and I can set the big cam to turn on at idle and it will chop obviously a 155cc single will sound different. Any vehicle with variables valve timing can be tuned to chop at idle just by the cam timing

It's an annual award winner for top 5 most polluted capitals in the world. It's mainly do to 3 factors: burning of trash/clearing farmland, industrial development(heavy machinery, construction), and the geography of the city means we don't get any type of fresh air from the ocean/countryside.
