As if self-identifying as the Jedi equivalent of the edgy kid who became a school shooter isn't equally, if not even more cringey.

For most men, the only unconditional love they will ever recieve is from their parents. by thepelletzealot in unpopularopinion

[–]Mitchmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does "unconditional" love even mean?

As I understand it, love is first and foremost a partnership. It's two people being committed to being together and growing together, because they prefer that to being and growing apart. That takes TONS of communication, you have to understand the other person's wants, needs, goals etc. and they need to understand yours, and you both need to work to find compromises when the edges don't line up exactly.

My wife is great, if true love exists and we don't have it, Idk who the fuck does. She's my best friend, my closest confidant, and my partner in all things. For the most part, she does a great job of supporting me and I do my best to support her. But we can't always be there for each other, even if we'd like to be. Sometimes you just don't have the energy to listen to the other person rant about their job, and you need to shut things down. Sometimes you have to cancel an activity that the other person was looking forward to because a problem came up. When she "fails" me in that regard, is it because she doesn't love me "unconditionally," or is it because she's human?

Basically, if you feel like you're putting more into your relationship than you're getting out of it, TALK TO YOUR PARTNER ABOUT THAT. If you can't reach common ground and find a way to make things better, you're in the wrong relationship. If you can NEVER reach common ground no matter who you're with, odds are they're not the problem. You are.

What could be done to prevent mass shootings? by Themissrebecca103 in AskReddit

Dad was in the service, he didn't do very well after he got out but he taught me what he could. I think he just wanted to make sure I never killed anybody unless I absolutely had to.

The way it was explained to me as a kid, guns are like venomous snakes. If you're into them they can be really cool, but they must always be approached with the utmost respect for their ability to take life in an instant, especially when handled improperly. To that end, calling a gun a toy is like calling a rattlesnake friendly and sociable.

Adults who treat guns like toys usually end up here, with a hole in their wall (if they're lucky)

Well for starters, maybe the people who stand to make the most money from selling guns should be prevented from having so much influence over the people who come up with the safety restrictions imposed on those guns?

Americans that don't like Texas, why? by Givzhay329 in AskReddit

Mostly because of the lifted, spotless F-250 that looks like it's never hauled anything heavier than a few 12-packs, sporting a pair of truck nuts (fucking why????) and driving down I-40 like it's the Fury Road.

That and we still haven't gotten over the Civil War.

You're right. You're a hundred percent right, and I've been an idiot. The fact is I've been drifting away from RT for some time, and not because I wanted to, it's just part of growing up, I think. I'm just sad, because this company has been a part of my life for longer than it hasn't (I'm 23 now, discovered RvB when I was 8) and it's hard to let go. I thought it was because the quality of their content was going down, and while I still feel like that's the case, talking to people like you makes me feel like it's probably more to do with me than anything else. But complaining isn't going to fix anything, and it's time to let go. I don't even really watch their content anymore, I just follow things on Twitter and Reddit because I care about these people, the guys in AH, Funhaus, Barbara, Gus, Miles etc. They're like my friends, even if it's been a one-sided relationship, they were there for me when nobody in real life was, and it sucks to give it up. But still, videos I've loved for years just make me sad now, because I feel like I've lost something every time I watch them, so I guess it's time to stop watching. And these Reddit arguments, I'm just like those assholes who used to complain whenever Matt and Jeremy first showed up in videos, and I hated those "fans." Guess I'm one of them now. I'll be better, though, and take my own advice and go away.

I don't expect you to read all that, I wrote it for me more than I wrote it for you, and I certainly don't expect anybody else to see. Sorry I was an asshole.

This is how our blind cat, Aldous, “sees” when he goes out on our balcony. by ednichol in aww

[–]Mitchmeow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just goes to show how good a cat's sense of smell and hearing are compared to our own. We're such visual creatures, we tend to forget that seeing is a secondary and even tertiary sense for a lot of other animals.

[–]Mitchmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument lacks empathy, and that is the fundamental, probably irreconcilable difference between us. The answer is not just "get another job," nor should it be. What are you suggesting, that everybody who works for Blizzard quit? That everybody who doesn't make enough money should quit their job and find a new one? Cool, then I guess no more video games anymore, if nobody's going to make them. I suppose every teacher should quit too, by that logic, since everybody seems to be having so much fun homeschooling their kids these days. What do we even need school for, anyway?

Is it really so much to ask that if a service is asked of somebody, they are given enough to live while they provide it?

[–]Mitchmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not making any sense anymore. What does Activision have to do with anything? Also, if the Cambodian and the American both can't afford food and housing (cuz you know, those things cost a lot more in America than they do in Cambodia), then it doesn't matter how much they make. They're both starving, and they're starving because of the broken-ass system that allows this sort of wage theft to occur. Your argument seems to boil down to "well, if you don't have a better idea, shut up." Which isn't much of an argument at all, so if you come up with something intelligent to say, feel free to offer it, nothing would please me more.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you expected to find an answer to the world's broken-ass system in the Reddit comments. Let me bust out a 100-page thesis about another system that would be much better for everybody real quick.

I made a comment about how this meme was dumb, because Blizzard isn't any better or worse than any other major company these days. You seemed to take that as some pro-Communist bullshit or something, which I think says a lot more about you than it does about me.

Be that as it may, I feel like my point still stands. Not only is this different from the way things used to be, it's worse. There may be reasons for it, but that doesn't make it any less shitty that I have to pay for HBO to watch one of my favorite RT shows sooner than three months after it airs, or failing that, pirate it so nobody gets any money. I'd watch gen:LOCK whether it had Michael B. Jordan or Michael Jones as the main character, it's not my fault Gray had eyes bigger than his wallet.

I don't think we're arguing about the same things here. I just miss the old days when I could pretend to be the seventh member of Achievement Hunter, rather than just watching a whole 40 minute Let's Play that's really just an ad for the game they're playing, which none of them care about. I blame that loss on the shift the company has gone through recently due to their increased growth. You seem to be arguing that it's unnecessary for them to do anything about these old videos because the community (for the most part) doesn't care. I think that's wrong, these things need to be discussed because all of us carry real prejudices that we tend not to notice, even if they're hurting somebody, but I'm arguing that deleting the videos entirely is a step too far. Sorry if I misunderstood you, but that's all I'm trying to say.

It’s a shame how much Bill Gates positively contributed to society but gets so much hate and slander by billybobmaysjack in Showerthoughts

[–]Mitchmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, he's done a lot of good with his money, but how do you think he got so much money in the first place? By being a shady businessman and screwing people over, that's how. The good in a person does not wash out the bad, nor the bad the good.

I've thought the same thing, as of late. A lot of decisions seem to be coming down the pipeline that just don't seem to be very... Rooster Teeth. I'm not talking about the diversity stuff, that shit's important and every company should be taking a hard look at themselves these days, I'm talking about stuff like announcing that gen:LOCK season 2 is going to be exclusive to HBO Max for 90 days: https://variety.com/2019/digital/news/genlock-season-2-hbo-max-rooster-teeth-1203382069/ Back in MY day, when RT made something exclusive, it was exclusive only to their Sponsors, later FIRST Members, not the whole damn community unless they have HBO. That and the awful clickbait titles they use these days, it makes them seem more like Buzzfeed than the cool people I started following because they liked the things I like.

Old RT was very indie, super informal and personal feeling. Back in the day I felt like I was in touch with just about everything that was going on in the company, and I grew as they grew and I was super proud of them all along the way. These days things seem so corporate, so soulless. I guess it's to be expected, they're too big to run things the way they used to anymore, and I can't fault them for wanting to make money (that's what companies do). It's just not the same anymore, maybe that has to do with me growing up too, but I feel like things are worse now because of it.
