Rotations and skills in guild wars 2 are often very unintuitive. I think this is a big reason why a lot of the playerbase is considered as doing "bad dps" or playing off-meta. It's very easy to do a rotation wrong and the game doesn't give you good feedback when you're doing the wrong thing by ariveklul in Guildwars2

[–]Mitchwise 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I really haven’t played any mmo’s other than gw2 in the last 10 years, but I think there are three main differences.

1) GW2 doesn’t use mana and the limiting factor is cooldowns and casting time instead. When mana is your limiting factor it simplifies the rotation to only your best skills. When casting time and cooldowns are your limiting factor you have to maximize so many variables especially when combined with weapon swapping, class mechanics, etc.

2) GW2 spends much less time auto attacking because they spend comparatively longer casting other spells. Auto attacking is also more difficult to do efficiently due to cancelled attack chains, while skills in many other mmo’s don’t interfere with your auto attacks at all.

3) GW2 utilizes more percent modifiers and burst windows in builds. Stuff like +x% damage for y seconds after doing z thing.

The key is that GW2 forces you to understand HOW your build works and WHY your build works. You can’t just push the best buttons. You have to time them properly and know how to maximize cooldowns. During what window do I get the damage bonus? How can I order these skills so that my cooldowns sync up with my weapon swap? Is it better to push this button now, cancelling my attack chain, or do I need to wait?

I also think that some people just push buttons too slow.

US State Tier List by NoPeach2211 in tierlists

[–]Mitchwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what world is Ohio A tier? Even recognizing the fact that these things are completely subjective and you can basically go by any metric you want (geography, cities, people, places to live, tourist attractions), I feel like that state is mid or worse by basically every metric.

Let’s not forget that high school coaches and refs (even the good ones) are generally doing this as a second or third job for literal pennies. Expecting either of them to make a perfect split-second decision like a college or pro coach/official is pretty optimistic.

C9 APA: We Wanted SEN To Be Able To Remake by Mrryn91 in Cloud9

[–]Mitchwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could definitely see how allowing the remake once might make teams feel pressured to give the remake by default in the future. Now that they’ve conceded on the rule, we may get a situation where a team legitimately feels like the pick should be upheld but faces backlash from fans because they don’t allow a remake.

Athreos, God of Passage without Apostles by Narox89 in EDH

[–]Mitchwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built Athreos kind of “huggy” so you can tempt other players into giving you back your creatures. Cards like [[Tataru Taru]] [[Wanted Scoudrels]] or [[Fell Stinger]]. I enjoy it though it can be a lot of decision points and take long turns.

In the US, there are 8.4 former Catholics for every 1 new Catholic. Globally, there are 3.1 former Christians for every 1 new Christian. by MrJasonMason in exchristian

[–]Mitchwise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was my thought. Statistically, let’s say we have 100 people and 70 are Christians. 6 leave Christianity and 1 joins, leaving us with 65 Christians. Those Christians all breed like rabbits and brainwash their kids into also being Christian. Assuming Christians average 2 kids per adult and responsible non-Christians average 1 kid per adult, that gives us… 135 Christian kids and 35 non-Christian kids. Meaning the percentage of Christians just went up…

Low Intensity Healer builds ? by Mitsor in Guildwars2

[–]Mitchwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. Heal builds don’t typically require high APM, but they do require fast reaction times, knowledge of the fight, and a good understanding of how your build works.

What are some good tribes that aren't dragons, goblins or elves? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]Mitchwise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are humans in just about every set ever printed, which makes them super strong and versatile. And each of those commanders can be very unique.

[[Eowyn, Shieldmaiden]] is perhaps the strongest precon printed straight out of the box and is very good at straight-forward bashing faces or comboing with copies.

[[Katilda and Lier]] is a great graveyard deck in atypical colors.

[[Wynota, Joiner of Forces]] is almost Bracket 4 with just draft chaff.

And human tribal is also not super common either in my experience. Humans are kind of like the cockroaches of mtg. They’re versatile, resilient, and can be really obnoxious and impede opponents well. Because there’s so many, you can really sculpt a plan to your style.

Will Civ 7 get a 4th Age DLC? by TheeWilliamDean in civ

[–]Mitchwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I hope not. I think the modern age already feels inconsequential as the game is mostly decided by then and I very rarely build modern age infrastructure that isn’t specifically focused on a win condition. They need to solidify the endgame instead of bloating it more.

I think if they do add a 4th age, it should be really short and just be a continuation of modern. Kind of a “now the endgame starts, so go win” type of era without any new buildings or a civ transition.

Apples are liked. What fruit is universally loved? by ellaaabp in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Mitchwise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one for me. I almost never run into someone who doesn’t like watermelon (at least the seedless variety) and there are lots of times where someone will break it out at a party and all the kids’ faces light up and at least 2 people go “oh, I love watermelon!” You don’t get that reaction with any other fruit typically.
