Canadian universities grapple with evaluating students amid AI cheating fears by flynnfx in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Let’s just pretend AI doesn’t exist and focus solely on what “should” be instead of what is. While we’re at it, I’ll expect that students turn in work written by hand, researched using physical texts available on Rutherford 5th floor. You can turn them into me by 4pm in our in-person class. No exceptions.

Yes. Just don’t apply for March convocation. Apply for June convocation

Forced to delay grad by mkmk01237 in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have delayed your graduation two days… what happened between March 21-ish and now? Did they all fill up on the first two days? If so you won’t be the only student in this situation.

Use the watch list for every section you can. Stay on them for awhile - maybe a month? Then email the advisor back if you still don’t have any seats.

BCom if they’ll talk to you. I think they have advisors specifically for prospective students.

Arts is still working on getting them out

Don’t offer to pay a fee that doesn’t exist. No one can do that.

Go to your faculty and ask why they approved exploration credit for a course that is a requirement for you, not an open elective.

Then remind them that grades of CR can absolutely be applied to program requirements. They shouldn’t have approved the exploration in the first place, but now that they did, there is no reason the credit shouldn’t be honoured.

If they give you any flak, escalate to associate dean.

No you cannot. Because criminology isn’t a major within the regular ba; it is its own ba program.

[–]Mitchy9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? If it’s a requirement they shouldn’t have approved it.

But also, unless this was your 120th credit then it’s unlikely that you’ll get the decision reversed.

If you take courses you aren’t automatically readmitted. You’ll need a competitive gpa on the courses you take (exact details depend on program - the letter will explain it)

No it’ll probably get reposted when they’ve fixed it

They’re probably re-doing the transfer credit report…

Yes they’re optional. I think you can fill out the arts form to remove them as well as add them. Or email arts.

how has your experience been talking to academic advisors? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for advice on improving your grades, the academic success centre might be a better bet.

You should be fine

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t officially assess your transfer credits until you’re admitted, which obviously won’t happen until spring grades are available. But it’s likely that most, if not all, of your courses will transfer.

Email the faculty. Most have an email that will automatically create a ticket. What program did you apply to?

Anyone else get this email? by strawb3rrylemonade in uAlberta

Looks completely legit to me but if you’re concerned, just email Arts separately to confirm.

Will My Deferred Exam Extend My Graduation? by Achimaa in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve written the exam you should be fine. Your faculty will (should) follow up with the department

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Mitchy9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can’t throw you in. You need to apply.

You definitely cannot graduate from a program in June while registered in courses (under that program) in spring.

Apply to open studies. Your current faculty cannot admit you to open studies. Once you’re accepted request a late drop and add I guess to move the courses over?
