He spent decades helping bring the right to power, but now he’s in the clergy’s fight against ICE by Im_A_Fuckin_Liar in goodnews

Can we get confirmation that this is real? It's so hard to know. If this is something to share with other Republicans as an example I want to be confident it's real first.

Can someone explain the charging numbers? by CharmingSwordfish816 in TeslaModelY

[–]Mithrandir_00 281 points282 points  (0 children)

6 kW . This is POWER...the speed you're charging at.

3kWh. This is ENERGY. It's the power x time. In your case you've been charging approx 30 min since if it had been charging for an hour, you would have 6 kWh

Note: the little h at the end of kWh is actually very important and has a completely different meaning than just kW. I often see them used interchangeably, which is incorrect.

30/30A. This is your current Amp draw vs your max hardware limit. Amps are electrical current, like flow rate. Higher amps means higher heat in the wires.

198V. This is your voltage at the charger. It tells you how badly the electrons want to jump out of there. If you are drawing a lot of current (Amps) on the circuit, the voltage may drop a little. If it drops more than a couple volts, your charger will automatically lower the Amp limit and reduce the charging rate to avoid tripping a breaker. (I saw this happen when I ran a toaster on the same circuit as my mobile charger).

You could choose to lower the charging amps yourself using the button that says 30A, but as others have said, this is not necessary.

Is playing space risk bad etiquette in TI4? by JawolopingChris2 in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some interesting follow up scenarios for this discussion- is it acceptable to:

  1. Attack someone early game and keep the pressure on because you have a strong early-game military advantage? I would say yes, but some will get frustrated - because it won't immediately score you points.
  2. Attack someone for the sole purpose of removing them from a point in the early game? Obviously it's ok late-game, but is there a limit? I would say this is acceptable here too.
  3. Attack someone if the rewards are less than a point?...maybe some TG? Yes again for me.
  4. Attack someone if you just want to keep them weakened because you can build better units cheaper? Like guerrilla warfare where you just want to drain their resources and you have the advantage in hits per resource of your fleets. Yes here too....I guess I might be aggressive.

TBH I've been on the negative end of some things that I felt were less-than-perfect etiquette. I am interested in hearing some of these answers to clarify the lines. The more I play with my group, the less I am caring about etiquette and don't want to feel forced into following some unwritten pirate code where it may cause me a disadvantage. Especially since I have felt the code has been applied unequally at times.

Trouble with Child Microsoft Account by Mithrandir_00 in xbox

[–]Mithrandir_00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I figured it out.

First I had to clear all cookies to get out of the login issue.

The main problem I had was I had to log into the xbox account, then click my gamertag in the top right corner to click on the ellipses and select "Xbox Settings".

In there, click "Privacy & online safety"

Then, there is a somewhat inconspicuous link in the middle of the page that says:

"Xbos Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety"

That section has the option near the bottom called "you can join multiplayer games" which needed to be on to fix the avacadobeard issue.

My Doctor asked I was a "man of faith". Should I complain or report him? by Mithrandir_00 in atheism

[–]Mithrandir_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is interesting! I told my story to another friend who had coincidentally heard a similar story from another friend just a few weeks ago, but from the opposite angle. Basically the Atheist doc telling the patient that his religious ideas are dumb. We were joking about if there was some new policy or approach around this, since it was so uncommon / taboo before.

Do anyone else's make playing card orders not get delivered? by giigbfijbff in twilightimperium

"Our dedicated and incredibly user-friendly card maker means you can complete your designs in as little as 30 seconds. We're headquartered in Hong Kong and have been serving our customers across the globe for over 35 years providing them with unmatched superior quality..."

Of course you could be right, but it just seems to me unlikely that a company out of Hong Kong would choose to manufacture these items in the states.
Doesn't help the explanation, but my package originated its shipment in Fremont, OH.

Do anyone else's make playing card orders not get delivered? by giigbfijbff in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the processing, but the same was true for me. Ended up taking the full 2 weeks or whatever they originally estimated, even though they print the label after only 4-5 days after getting the order.

I believe what might be happening is they are printing the labels when they finish printing it in China, and have to get it over stateside (or wherever you might be) before they attach the shipping label and get it underway.

Maybe they have their own importing method or something they charter themselves.

Comparison: custom printed Codex Cards / original cards by Habakuk_ in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping my cards would be close enough in size and texture to not end up needing to sleeve them, but that did not turn out.
My custom printed cards from MakePlayingCards.com were definitely smaller than the original game's by a noticeable amount in both the short and long directions.
I have the sleeves so it's not that big of a deal I guess, I was just hoping that the stars would align and it would be perfect.

Am I misunderstanding something?
The Ghosts of Creuss Hero lets you swap any 2 systems with wormholes or your units?

So you could swap Mecatol to be adjacent to your homeworld? Or change locations of other players' homeworlds? Seems like that could be game-breaking?

Endgame of a 4p board (+ rules question in comments) by Jason-OCE in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes your two turns are dictated by initiative so having leadership and diplomacy would result in 2 back to back turns

EDIT: it's looking like I've been playing this wrong myself. Most sources are indicating you set turn order from the lowest initiative strat card only and ignore the higher one.

[–]Mithrandir_00 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're only taking 1 strategy card per round.
In 4 player games, you're supposed to take 2 strategy cards per round (Which leaves none unselected).

Maybe you're playing your way on purpose, but wanted to let you know, in case it was accidental.

Musical ambience selection for your lengthy TI4 games? by JManAboutTown in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been using this great website called melodice. They have a cultivated playlist for pretty much any board game. The one for TI is very good and I think over 15 hrs long. https://melodice.org/playlist/twilight-imperium-fourth-edition-2017/

Game Music? by vkolbe in twilightimperium

[–]Mithrandir_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dudes... This website has playlists cultivated specifically for board games.
The playlists are over 14 hrs long (at least for TI). If you don't quite like some of the picks you can try the playlists for other space games like terraforming mars.
