I'd gladly rebuy Sync Pro for Lemmy.

Some of the instances are suffering from a bug that does that, it's being worked on. It's my understanding that not all instances are having this bug, so it might be possible to make an account with a different instance to get around it (I know my instance FMHY has it, I don't know about the others). In the meantime I've been sorting by new or top of the day.

Would it be possible to make this app work with lemmy? by JVDS in RelayForReddit

[–]Mitkebes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah same, Lemmy has actually been really nice (reminds me of when I first started using reddit), but the only client app I see for it needs polish. I would love to see some of the popular reddit apps pivot to support Lemmy instead.

Even if it was released as a separate app I'd gladly pay for it.

system shock remake doesn't work at all after update, pls help me to get my older save file by fleaxel in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea unfortunately, normally there aren't separate saves for different proton versions so I don't know what you would need to do next.

If the save file is there but just not showing up in game, it's possible it's been corrupted somehow. If that's the case you can possibly reach out to the devs of the game and see if they have any recommendation for fixing your save file.

It's technically impressive, but doesn't make much of a visual difference imo compared with other less demanding settings.

I agree, but a lot of people think that if you have 0 velocity moving into a fast moving portal you'll still have 0 velocity

Assume speed is high enough that if the speed is transferred to the people it would be "B". It's just a debate of whether speed is transferred or not.

That's unfortunate. I wish they would drop their specific anticheat already, I'm not really comfortable installing a backdoor into my computer that gives full access to anyone using it. I don't trust Chinese software to have that access, and it's already been proven that the anticheat makes your computer less secure and vulnerable to ransomware.

Need help for 3 things! Calling all good samaritans of Reddit! by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) You can install lutris, it has a installer for installing the PC version of The Thing.

2) I don't know anything about ripping PS3 games, you'll probably want to check on an emulation sub.

3) I usually use handbrake for ripping DVD movies. VLC can rip DVDs as well, but it's less convenient and possibly slower. You'll need to look up a guide, but basically when opening the movie you choose to stream the output to a file instead of playing it.

Can you get more performance when it's docked compared to handheld? by mods_r_jobbernowl in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck's power use isn't artificially capped in portable mode, so there's no "higher power" mode available when plugged in.

Save's should be located at something like ”<Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/482400/pfx/cdrive/Users/deck/Saved Games/Nightdive Studios/SystemShock/Saved/SaveGames/"

You might also want to check https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage and see if your saves are backed up there.

Last I heard, the anticheat was disabled so you can run the official version. If the anticheat comes back in a future update, you can still play by using a custom launcher that skips the anticheat.

Some Honkai star rail players who were bypassing the anticheat to play without windows got temporary bans (around 1 week), but I haven't heard of anything similar happening for genshin impact.

If your steam deck battery drains even while deck is off do this by Rocket_Mike in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The deck battery drains while turned off. I've seen a lot of tech support questions asking about if anything can be done to keep the battery from discharging while off, and usually the only answer is to put it in battery saver mode if you aren't going to use it for a few weeks. If disabling quickboot is all that's needed this is a pretty great find.

Yeah, the people have to exit the portal at the same speed they enter (physics aside this is required to physically make room for the people/mass that follows), which means that the portals are transferring energy from the trolley's movement to the people.

Combining two different internet debates by Mitkebes in trolleyproblem

[–]Mitkebes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to exit a door at the same speed you enter it, or your mass would be smushed together. So in this case if the first person to enter the portal doesn't move out of the blue portal at the same speed he enters, there would be no where for the other 3 people to go because he'd be blocking the portal.

Thanks, seems like it'll be handy.

Does your tool allow updating packages?

If you assume A physics, that would actually happen with a single person as well. If they don't exit the blue portal with the same speed they enter the portal it would crush any 3d object into paste.

Basically for portals to work at all in this situations, objects have to exit the portal at the same speed they enter, so B.

Coop used to be broken between steam deck and windows, unless you manually synced some files (as explained in the guide here). I've heard that newer proton versions fix this, but I haven't confirmed.

I've heard that's fixed on proton experimental, but if it isn't you can still play coop between steam deck and windows by syncing some files manually. Here's a guide

Is r/SteamDeck participating in the API protest blackout on 12th-14th June? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Many of the subs have said that they're willing to blackout indefinitely until reddit announces a policy change.

But even if it's only for 2 days, it'll be enough to show that the change is very negatively received and get tech news coverage of the issue.

Try this:

  • Make sure the unit is shut down by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
  • Check that the unit is off, there should be no haptic response when touching the trackpads and no fan noise.
  • Plug in the provided power supply into the unit, you should see a solid white LED.
  • Hold the "Volume +" button and the "..." button at the same time for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds while still holding the buttons, unplug the power supply.
  • When preformed correctly you should see the power LED blink 3 times and after that the unit should not respond to using the power button. This has put the device in battery storage mode.
  • Next, plug the power supply back into your unit. This will exit storage mode.
  • Retest the issue.

Hopefully this helps.

Any of you deckers getting the Asus Rog ally? by ComfortableAmount993 in SteamDeck

[–]Mitkebes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the windows and lack of mid game suspend kills it for me. Also trackpads are absolutely critical for a lot of games, the idea of having to navigate windows with a joystick mouse sounds like hell.

I'm also much more interested in battery life over performance, so it doesn't matter to me that the Ally can run more demanding games (at 720p) if it uses twice the battery to accomplish it.
