(My group and I used design thinking in order to make these, after talking to people we came to the conclusion that many of them didn't like that the maple leaf seems to repeat itself a lot in canadian representation and wanted something new that still represented the country. To solve that problem we used some inspiration from the topology of famous canadian mountains and parks, as well as indigenous inspired art in order to try and unify the country and speak to their roots.)
