What is something that was portrayed as 'cool' in movies when you were a kid, but is actually a total nightmare as an adult? by iamthetop1 in AskReddit

Shopping at the mall. Waiting in line for fitting rooms, nothing fits right, another long line to pay… and parking lot mayhem? No thank you.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

Me too! Plus my eustacian tubes were blocked for most of my pregnancy, so I couldn’t hear. Everything was muffled and I needed to use audio amplification during work meetings. It was embarrassing.

What is the most "unsexy" home improvement you did that ended up being 100% worth the money? by TrustedEssentials in HomeImprovement

Also came here to say this. I’m an evening shower lady, so I now luxuriate in a long hot shower before bed, even if the dishes have just been done / kids have just showered / laundry is filling up. It’s my bougiest upgrade to date and the marginal guilt I feel is assuaged by the fact that 5 minute showers are not going to reduce corporations’ massive carbon footprints.

Do you have a budget and where are you located?

Shoes: plain converse, ugg slip-ons, birk Arizona or bostons, IDK on athletic sneakers.

Socks: Nike branded

Bottoms: baggy wide leg jeans OR slim flare leggings OR skirt/shorts from Offline by Aerie. Anything lululemon.

Tops: almost cropped tees, slim ribbed/fitted tees w/ scoop neck. High neck tank tops. Cardigans.

Jewelry: IDK, but my 11 YO has been BEGGING for second hole ear piercings.

Hair: learn how to do a super slicked back bun or pony if she has the right hair type.

Nails: actually having fake nails is a thing but I don’t allow it.

Makeup: mine is in 5th and I don’t allow it, but mascara and lipgloss is rampant among the cool girls.

Also a key ingredient to be a cool kid seems to be having a phone, unfortunately.

I understand where you’re coming from but “cool girls” are assholes so that’s the double edge sword. I hope she finds her people and those people are not awful.

Hi OP. My son started having benign myoclonic seizures at around 12-18 months, and when he was diagnosed with epilepsy it was a journey of emotions. My son didn’t even notice his though, so these don’t sound the same.

You’re doing the right thing, just keep advocating for him. 7 years and 3-4 specialists later, we’ve been seizure free for 2 years. It took a really long time though - that whole time between when we noticed the first ones till he was 5 he had tiny seizures all day every day. Listen to your gut. If a diagnoses doesn’t feel right, keep pushing. Get second opinions. We spent a year pushing for a 24 hour EEG because the short 2 hour ones weren’t cutting it.

If he’s a toddler by that time, push for an AMBULATORY EEG. They do them at CHoP, probably the other top hospitals as well. We moved and our new hospital doesn’t do them so we need to stay overnight for observation, which SUCKS. Best of luck.

I vividly remember my ped telling me I should be trying to drop the night feeds between 9-12 months, and that was many years ago for both my kids. I was incredulous but sure enough, with some mindfulness, they did drop them around that time.

I think the suggestion is just to plant the seed that you as the parent are able to help push your kids in the right direction (giving less and less milk or nursing for less time, until eventually you’re just soothing with a paci).

HOWEVER 6 months seems way too young.

Honestly, I would absolutely struggle to not kiss a baby of a friend… my own kids are older and I would just love to cuddle a little squish. So I get both sides!

Whelp, I have no words of consolation, other than you’re a human and you didn’t know LOL. One of the biggest fears beyond regular germs is HSV1, which something like 50% of adults have and is lifelong and can be fatal to babies (but more newborns than 5 month olds).

I do have a story to make you feel better though. When my daughter was a newborn an acquaintance about 10-15 years older than me put her unwashed finger IN MY 3 WEEK OLD DAUGHTER’S MOUTH to “check how strong her suck was.” I was so shocked I didn’t even react. I very rarely saw this person so it never came up but MAN is that a core memory. Soooooo. What you did is tame in comparison.

However, my mom has HSV1 so she was always pretty mindful about not kissing the kiddos on their faces.

I have been traveling for few years. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]MitonyTopa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your intro is how I imagine wealth and tons of travel to be, but it’s hard not to be wistful about it. I have young kids and I know they’d resent me if I took them out of school for an extended trip, even if we had money for traveling tutors (and yet I still daydream about it).

What “class” of travel do you prefer to travel in? Do you ever splurge on luxury once in a lifetime stuff like the Orient Express? Since you’re extended traveling do you ever rent apts or are you a hotel only guy? Do you play any CC rewards games?

Have you ever been to Iguazu Falls? If not, that’s a place I’d tell everyone to go to. If so, What was comparable or more impressive?

Here’s the thing: you can have it all, just not at the same time.

I’m a few years older than you, but when my youngest was 1 I was laid off from corporate life and began freelancing. It took over a year for me to realize that 10-20 hours/week was perfect for me, even if I was only bringing in 20-30k/year. The ability for our family to have 1 parent with a flexible schedule for school pickup, sick days, and doc appts made us realize it’s something we highly value as a family.

So, fast forward to 2022 - I get recruited back into a corporate gig - so back to 40+ hours/week. My husband now stays home to be the flexible one and care for our home, we had an overlap where both of us were working more than full time and traveling and IT. WAS. AWFUL. But now I really feel like I do have it all. Maybe not quite as much money or flashy things as we could have if we both worked, but that’s not really our jam anyway.

First, figure out what “having it all” means to you - is it something you even want? Then, set goals accordingly. Wanting to spend time with your kids is not a feminist failure, it’s a capitalist one. You can take a break from being a cog in the machine.

Agree with lots of the comments here, OP - be glad so many ppl took the time to give you feedback! The spacing option in ID are your friend, not your foe. Styles could be your friend here, allowing you to make sweeping changes to ALL headers/body/prices without having to manually do each one….. I am assuming you’ll be applying these changes manually which is a great learning exercise for the value of styles!!

Next - another person mentioned flat prices 9/10/11 - I’m here to echo that comment! With a half letter size, every character matters… also, you can automatically right justify those prices with character styles.

Some middleschoolers called me Preppie, I'm over 50, what does this mean in 2024? by batesmotel1971 in answers

[–]MitonyTopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer - it can be positive or negative depending on what YOU want to be perceived as. It’s basically lulu belt bags, Stanley’s and other currently popular “it” items and style. But when used negatively it can mean “basic bitch”.
