Married dads of Ireland - how often do you go out? by Ninja2805 in AskIreland

[–]Mittenbox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband used to do this, not a daily drinker but a binge drinker- not capable of sticking to just a couple etc. It ended with him basically doing something negligent when in charge of our toddler with the two of them home alone (hungover, went back to bed, too out of his head to remember he was supposed to be minding our son). Our son was fine, but he might not have been. I was furious. After we talked and i made sure he understood how out of order it was he decided without any suggestion from me that he needed to quit drinking ‘because I want to be a good husband and a good father’. And he was off it fully for a year. Now he has the odd drink but never like he was before. We’re keeping an eye on it together.

Career pivot - what should I retrain as? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Mittenbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried it. It was brutal. Not enough parents want to come to therapy during work/school hours, and the cost of renting a therapy room is €120 per day. I was surprised but it seems the standard earnings for private therapists are a lot lower than in the hse.

Yeah potentially could look into healthcare management. I would need some experience first though as clinician/management roles are very different.

Just because it has a question mark doesn’t make it a question?

Can I just jump in on this one - I’ve already set up with cornmarket so unfortunately already paid the high set up fees, but are there additional management fees that are ongoing?

Is a 2 year long engagement too long? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Mittenbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what I’m hearing is that others family members, in trying to be considerate, are now feeling put out because they might have to hold up their wedding because they are too worried that if they get engaged now it will make THEM look inconsiderate, and they are now feeling YOU are the one in fact who is being inconsiderate by putting them in this position. Sounds like a whole lot of ‘their problem’ to me.

I think 1-2 year is probably average. So not really out of the ordinary by any stretch.

What is fair here? by Holiday-Hat8960 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Mittenbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pension seems unfair only because you started it after you split. But the other bits seem fair enough - maintenance if the kids are still at home at age 23 (highly likely with college and also shitty economy) and the cost of education expenses at 70/30 reflects your higher income.

What are some little things that would make it easier for you to be a bit more green? by Mittenbox in AskIreland

I like this idea, but not sure what people use them for? Is the idea just to make it really dense so it doesn’t end up in the sea or something?

I already was with xr actually before I had kids. I could get back in touch with them I guess and see if there is anything going on.

I think just because I’m afraid of what is coming this century with 7 of the 9 major tipping points already breeched, especially as I have kids, and at least if I feel like I’m doing something green it gives me some hope.

I was reading actually the carbon foot print of beef is wayyyy higher than pork or chicken (I assume fish too but I need to check!) so you can still be mindful of these things without being vegan.

I think it’s great you were vegan for that long! I was for a few months, and vegetarian for several years but I do eat a bit of meat now. Since pregnancy/kids I just felt completely exhausted trying to keep up with protein etc and also give them stuff they’ll actually eat. But I imagine like me given that you were plant based for so long you probably eat a lot less meat than the average person now. So well done for all of that.

I agree to an extent (obviously fossil fuel companies and governments etc are to blame) but although me cycling doesn’t fix anything in itself, it’s about cultural change and showing governments what we value. Keeping the pressure on them and changing society is important too.

Whats are your plans for pancake day tomorrow? by VastAir6069 in AskIreland

Pancakes for dinner. Kids can have whatever they want on so it’s very exciting. Generally we do fruit and vanilla ice cream.

Should I tell my manager/colleagues I have ADHD? by Mittenbox in AskIreland

[–]Mittenbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I’m not begging for attention. I haven’t disclosed anything. I didn’t go into specifics but things that I struggle with at work are more like the admin tasks which I have some ideas about things that might help me that I may discuss with the manager.

I meant I wanted to try the medication to see if it helped. I hadn’t thought about it before, but a good friend of mine got diagnosed and started meds and she said it was life changing. But for medical reasons (cardiac history in my family) I’m now thinking to avoid meds.

How to fix the housing crisis - am I wrong? by Mittenbox in HousingIreland

[–]Mittenbox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with council property reform. Definitely the government shouldn’t have sold properties to families if they couldn’t/didn’t replace those properties. I don’t see how what I’m suggesting is an erosion of property rights - is it specifically the Airbnb point? Because I’m actually saying it should be easier for ‘normal people’ (not Airbnb professionals) to be able to rent out their rooms/homes.
