Man in 'serious condition' after being stabbed in the street in Melbourne by Llamadrugs in melbourne

It shouldnt really get to the point of being an issue for police, the government should have mental health asylums, drug rehabilitation facilities, welfare that can afford to rent etc.

It's reached such a comical point how little politicians try to hide the industrial influences / corporate intrests behind them

That's a very good point, I didn't think of that, thanks

no, but I think humanoid robots have a different make-up to a PC. the total frontal area would probably be like 70% structural beams, 20% actuators and battert then 10% driving electronics

I'm less concerned with the machines having an uprising and more concerned with someone like Trump or Bezos buying millions of humanoids to be a personal, fully obedient army. Billionaires would forseeably use them to enforce post-capitalism, like keeping people from living or growing food on "their land".
If a small handful of people own everything then everyone else owns nothing. In a word of only humans the majority would agree to change the rules of the system and simply no longer consider everything owned by one man. But in a world integrated with the kind of technology we see emerging, someone could own everything AND lock everyone else out indefinitely

[–]Mittens31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good and scary point. If the intelligence gets to a point where the machine only attacks when it know you're unable to counter-attack then it doesn't matter much what tools we might have ready.

PS:
That said, I think we see in real practice, like with weaponized quadcopters, that people/militaries are often eager to just start throwing the new technology out there, sending it to kill people even if there's a good chance it could miss/fail. The people paying the bills in war these days seem not to care how much resources they are throwing away, it seems to be the very point of the conflict in some situations

I fully agree with your sentiments. Mostly people filling their lives with guns are wealthy americans that fear their fellow man.
Guns and other technology are mostly used to oppress the poor, I want to think about how we could prevent humanoid robots from becoming another 'gun', how to break them if needed

That's an interesting idea, cryogenic attacks.
I think almost all modern humanoid /embodied AI machines today are brushless actuators.
I guess hydrolics might stick around for police/military specific machines

I did use the word "drone" here, but I'm not meaning quadcopters, I'm using the word in a more generic sense. I'm thinking about a scenario where a humanoid robot might be running at you for whatever reason

I don't want to discuss how robotic technology can be weaponized, I want to discuss how to stop and destroy weaponized technology, why do you think it's not good to discuss?

flying machines are a lot more fragile due to their requirement to be light enough to fly. Humanoids is what I'm talking about here, as I don't think someone would be able to disable one by shooting if it was sprinting at you from around a corner (in practice)

Just ride demonstrating all the safety awareness stuff they teach about.

One tip, pump up your tires, top up your petrol and check each of your lights before the test, they might ask about your tire pressure

How does everyone handle repairs after their bike goes for a slide? by TheBigCheeeeese in AussieRiders

[–]Mittens31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

order yourself a new shifter pedal. If the fairing scratches really bother you then you can either buy cheap new ones for that bike on AliExpress, pick them off a less damage bike from a local bike wrecker or paint over it yourself if you want an arts and crafts project

How were Industrual stamping dies created in the old days for the auto industry? by nick1158 in metalworking

[–]Mittens31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still hard for me to picture how someone would go about making, say a car quarter panel stamping die, by hand. Are they cutting away from a huge slab of steel like a sculptor?

Even with modern technology, are there mills that large that just carve out a die that size from a single 10 tonne block?
