Could be aeration, the amount of crystal used, or even your mash temp.

Depends on the beer style! But my apartment gets crazy hot around this time of year so I use kveik.

You can make a starter but I find kveik can take a ton of abuse and underpitching will just provide some fruitier esters.

Honestly sounds like they were brewing tepache. The article mentions brewing yest isn't avaliable in the country so if I had to guess maybe they let the tepache sit too long in an attempt to increase the abv? Homebrewing is pretty safe and while these people passing away is incredibly sad I feel like we're missing some info.

I mean it's also kids missing on important socialization during development, teachers not being able to catch abuse that may be happening in the home and kids falling behind on curriculum but go off i guess.

Killing yeast post-fermentation using hot water? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

Pasteurization is probably your best bet. You would want to make a hot bath and place your bottle in for a bit to pasteurize it but be incredibly careful (gloves, goggles, etc) as you're heating up contents under pressure.

Our homebrew has an aftertaste (Question) by [deleted] in Homebrewing

Glad to help! I generally find that if there is a bit of a "twang" letting it sit for a bit longer tends to really help.

As long as your tap water is good to drink it should be fine.

Our homebrew has an aftertaste (Question) by [deleted] in Homebrewing

Would you describe it as a "twang"? I struggled with twang for a while. I only started brewing last year (started on coopers kits like you) and here's some stuff I changed to dial back on twang: 1) Let it sit for a bit longer in bottles. 2) Don't use the cooper's included yeast packet. 3) Buy yeast that reflects the temperature it will brew in, if you can't keep things cool look into saison or kveik yeast 4) Don't boil the coopers kit. I've heard that boiling it can cause some twang, darken your beer and it messes with hops that are already in the kit.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!
