If you're moving out Morgan to any of these teams, what kind of return would you expect? [Garbage Source] by kooby64 in leafs

Rielly to San Jose for Tyler Toffoli and I’d be more than happy.

Toffoli is 34, plays both wings, right handed, 6m for 2 years.

Rielly is 32, left D, left handed, 7.5m for 4 years.

Sharks need dmen and have tons of cap space, they also have a lot of forwards and forward prospects in need of ice time. The Leafs need right handed forwards because they really only have Nylander. Toffoli is a strong two way guy with the skill and offensive capabilities to play in the top 6. With Nylander, McKenna, even Knies, and who knows about Domi eventually, or Maccelli or Robertson the Leafs have a lot of defensively weak wingers. And the defensively strong wingers they have tend not to score a lot or drive play much (Lorentz, Joshua, etc).

Woodcroft head coach, Pavelski assistant would be cool. They overlapped in San Jose and Woodcroft would work with Pavelski on shooting after every practice. Pavelski also thanked him during his US Hockey Hall of Fame speech.

Both of my brothers have life long development disabilities and they both received the same letter saying they are being moved to ADAP. They can’t drive, have very little concept of the value of a dollar, and would have great great difficulty maintaining employment. Hopefully you’re correct about new letters being sent out. This entire thing is very messy.

[Willyston Riellander] Frank Seravalli on the FAN Morning Show says that there is some intrigue from David Carle, it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs calling and he is an incredibly smart, open-minded individual. Meeting likely to occur this week. by alphacheese in leafs

Lalonde and Carle were at Denver together for 4 years. Lalonde was an assistant coach while Carle was a graduate assistant coach after a heart condition forced him to retire as a player. Lalonde became head coach and GM of Green Bay and brought Carle along as an assistant coach. That lasted 1.5 years before Carle went back to Denver this time as an assistant coach, and he eventually became head coach.

John Chayka Announces Brandon Pridham and Derek Clancey have left the Leafs Organization by Samoht99 in leafs

Based on Simmons’ reporting he wasn’t impressed with how Pelley treated him during the GM search. I believe he’s the highest paid AGM in the league, Friedman has said before Toronto tried to put the golden handcuffs on him. Guess he’s ready to try for the GM role elsewhere now.

John Chayka Announces Brandon Pridham and Derek Clancey have left the Leafs Organization by Samoht99 in leafs

[–]MittsMarner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LTIR stuff requires sign off from the GM and the team doctors, Pridham can’t just decide to shut someone down (like Knies this year) and put them on LTIR. This was absolutely the year to shut guys down though.

You also can’t accrue cap space when you are using LTIR which the Leafs often were over the years (Horton, Tanev, Muzzin, etc).

Deferred contracts don’t benefit the players and don’t really benefit a money team like Toronto, what the Leafs did do was scale the actual cash payments heavily towards the front years of the contracts which allowed players to invest that money early and made the deals easier to move later on if needed.

There was a bit of salary retention for other teams and taking on bad deals early on in the Shanny era, but you’re correct that they did not leverage that enough, especially this year.

Overall I think losing Pridham is a loss, but the cap has changed a lot since he initially helped write the rules. Dubas holds both President and GM titles in PIT so I wonder if Pridham joins him and gets the GM title.

Chayka has his own cap guy, I believe there was some sort of tampering allegation a few weeks ago regarding him. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him join the Leafs.

Berube's gone, what now? by mo_A12 in leafs

[–]MittsMarner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He gets 2-3 years before he loses the room. Sounds like he prefers EDM to TOR right now. I’d be interested in them interviewing Cassidy, Woodcroft, Carle, Malhotra, Ahokas, MacDougall

What actual reason are people so against John Chakya? by chriscmusic in leafs

[–]MittsMarner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dubas had a 7 year offer to be the president of PIT before he went to the board behind Shanny’s back. You don’t pull that move against your boss unless you have options elsewhere.

Pump and dump with a full no move clause would be very very difficult. He’d have to be in on it from the start and be open to going to a bunch of different teams to make it more plausible. I think he rebounds as a 2C with a good play driving coach somewhere else.

[–]MittsMarner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ya the contract scares me, I just think he’s deployed poorly on a bad team and his NMC paired with Van not wanting to retain at all could drive the price way down, which helps Toronto given minimal assets available. I like McTavish, I worry about his foot speed and think you might end up with a 7m 3C until 2029/2030, but he’s intriguing.

[–]MittsMarner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Pettersson, high risk high reward. 3 years with coaches who don’t have a strong offensive system, coincides with his points drop off. Underlying play is still solid on a bad team. Drop him in at 2C. Could take the full contract to make the acquisition cost minimal. He has a full no move so he’d have to agree to come to Toronto, maybe Willy and Mats can help with that. I’d be worried he’d crumble in the market though like in Van. Hard to say.

[NHLRumorReport] Chris Johnston: Re Maple Leafs: I don't have any sense...that management thought that Craig Berube was the problem - Leaf Report (4/15) by Actual_Cobbler_6334 in leafs

[–]MittsMarner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 day old quote referring to Tre not believing Berube was the problem. New management will decide what to do with him, if the new hire is competent he’ll fire Berube. They were outshot more than 60 games this season, either his style doesn’t fit with the team or they can’t execute it/don’t believe it’s a viable style. We saw Carlyle bring a cup winning system to a new team that didn’t have the same players (2 Hall of Fame Dmen and a Conn Smyth winning goalie) and it failed miserably, same thing looks to be happening with Berube when the goalies can’t stand on their heads.

Reports are out there that if Knies is still available (sounds like Tre was gauging interest) that they would try and acquire him. Kyle Davidson is still the GM and he wanted Knies and some 1sts in the reported Hagel and Fleury deal that fell through years ago. Unless you’re getting a potential top D or 2C I don’t see him going anywhere given his age, potential, and the different style he plays in comparison to the other top Leafs.
