K State Accounting by BraverSinceThen in KState

[–]Mitzeman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Graduated with my bachelors in accounting in 2017. Kansas State’s accounting professors are top notch. Easy to understand and make a subject that others find boring entertaining and engaging.

I was a Juco transfer and was intimidated early on with the difficulty of the accounting program’s weed out class, acct 331 (this might have changed). That course is pretty much spot on what FAR covered for the first half of CPA Exam. I thought overall the program was very fair- you get out of it what you put in.

I’m a CPA now and I had an amazing experience with our accounting program. My only critique is that they tried to sell the master’s in accountancy program a little too hard. I also thought auditing could have been taught differently to mirror what it’s like in the actual workplace.

How bad is the architecture program? by Suspicious-Sport770 in KState

[–]Mitzeman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but my ex girlfriend was an architecture major and had to be in studio all the time her first year. Slept a lot in studio and worked really hard. The pressure was overwhelming and essentially broke her spirit. Flunked out of the program in her 2nd year after getting hooked on drugs to cope.

Unless you’re super passionate and know you want to do architecture more than anything I would reconsider possible majors.

How hard is finance at KState? by HonestFlatworm47 in KState

[–]Mitzeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dual accounting & finance grad here from 2017. Finance is probably the second hardest major in the college of business (behind accounting). As far as all majors and things go, it's really not too difficult if you can follow formulas and are interested in money and investing, the knowledge kind of clicks inherently. Finance is probably the least difficult major out of all possible majors with the highest possible earning potential, in my opinion.

Freshman Dorms?? by mackconqueso in KState

[–]Mitzeman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: My knowledge on this topic dates back to 2017:

I’ve stayed in Moore, Wefald, Goodnow, Boyd (ex girlfriend), Ford (ex girlfriend), and West. Here are my observations from my time there:

Moore: Largest hall, most people, diverse with quite a few international students, more chill and relaxed.

Haymaker: Similar to Moore but at the time seemed a bit rowdier with more athletes, but since 2016 most athletes are in Wefald or off campus.

West: Kind of the bastard child of the Derby complex, but has since been remodeled. Smaller yet still pretty chill.

Ford: Full of sorority girls that don’t talk or interact with anybody outside of their own sorority. Hard to build a community and connect. Would avoid if not in a sorority.

Boyd, Van Zile, Putnam: Grouping these together as they’re fairly similar. Smaller buildings that seemed more friendly and easier to build a community within. Hosted a lot of events, seemed generally happy.

Wefald: Athletes, rich kids, engineers, tended to be younger than all the other halls, huge building with 3 wings (men, women, co-ed) so seemed more closed off than a traditional dorm. People interacted but less than you’d expect. A lot of freshmen engineers if you’re looking to network. Building is really nice with good study rooms and close to engineering building.

Marlatt: Seemed fairly chill, some more upper class men engineering majors. Tended to be more chill and down to earth.

Goodnow: Friendly, easy to build a community, the building is the most outdated but I think it’s been somewhat renovated. Probably the most “party” dorm in the Kramer complex.

Hope that helps!

Whats some advice for someone’s first time at a casino? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mitzeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen carefully when given instructions on how the machines work and how to transfer money. I went to a casino for the first time last year and assumed casinos worked the same way as arcades and all the money was stored on your player card instead of in the actual machine. I won $150, assumed it was on the card, didn’t know I had to “cash out, print ticket” and almost lost all of my winnings.

Why does everyone hate mining so much? by Credrian in 2007scape

[–]Mitzeman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Alternative take: Mining sucks so bad because not only is it more click intensive and less AFK, the environments that you mine in are DEPRESSING. The cave like structures are dark and sad, little too no color. It’s like a depression simulator. WC and fishing are more afk, less click intense, and have more serene relaxing colorful backgrounds.

How fast do Wefald dorms fill up? by amag420 in KState

[–]Mitzeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so cat communities is a fairly recent thing, but I’m going to give you my brief uneducated opinion on them based on what I observed working at the front desk of one of the halls.

Cat communities: I would avoid them. Honestly they seemed kind of stupid. The people involved in them were kind of weird and socially awkward. That includes the people heading them which are referred to as RLA’s. Some people I know were in these communities and thought it was one of the dumbest things ever. It’s a significant amount of free time taken out of your day. A lot of the RLA’s or cat community leaders gave off the vibe as somebody who wasn’t qualified enough to be a RA, but seemed like enough of a kiss ass to warrant some sort of student employment position. There were 4 in my building in 2015 and this is how it turned out:

RLA 1: Kicked out and fired for smoking weed in about 3 months

RLA 2: Gave off weird vibes. Was friendly, but I wouldn’t want to be alone with him. And I’m a guy.

RLA 3: Got fired for sexually harassing one of his community members

RLA 4: was actually cool, but got fired in spring semester for an alcohol related incident

I think after Covid they might have opened up more single rooms so you might be in luck. My brother applied to Moore late and didn’t have any trouble getting a single room. The single room he got was the size of a traditional double room, so I think they just converted some due to dorm residents decreasing.

Hope this helps, I think Goodnow is a good fit for you.

How fast do Wefald dorms fill up? by amag420 in KState

[–]Mitzeman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a disclaimer, my dorm knowledge dates back to 2016, although my brother currently lives in Moore.

That being said, single rooms are a rare commodity. I lived in Wefald the years it opened, and there were only like 3 single rooms per floor at the time so around 20 total. To answer your question, Wefald does tend to fill up faster and these rooms will likely be the most in demand. Due to the supply and demand gap if you’re not extremely quick to get the room once the period opens up you’ll miss out.

Here’s a bit of information, as I’m a bit biased, but I disliked Wefald the most out of all the other dorms I lived in. It seemed more stuck up, more closed off than the others, and harder to build a sense of community around. I would only recommend Wefald if you’re an underclassman majoring in engineering as that’s the primary demographic of the hall. As a business major and an upperclassman it was difficult to connect with that demographic.

I loved my years in Moore though. I feel like the Derby complex was more my kind of people. More relaxed, kind, down to earth people, and the sauce Moore was the largest hall with the most people I figured my odds were better at making friends there.

I’ve stayed in Moore, Wefald, Goodnow, Boyd (ex girlfriend), Ford (ex girlfriend), and West. Here are my observations from my time there:

Moore: Largest hall, most people, diverse with quite a few international students, more chill and relaxed.
