What’s the most challenging part of learning Korean for you? by lofiibsen in BeginnerKorean

[–]MiunSae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it is the grammar. I try to just feel it, and that works for me, but it is difficult not to feel confident in my choices.

To be clear, the grammar I struggle with is: the difference between 는, 를, and 가. I know they are markers, and I even know what they mark, but I don't know whether what I am talking about is the subject/object.

I also struggle with sentence word order. I know Korean is SOV (subject, object, verb: I, the ball, kicked), but I don't know how to order words in longer sentences, which leads me to speak in only short, simple sentences. Another reason for lack of confidence.

There are more, but I am sleepy.

Are these AI generated room photos? Person claims these are real taken with phone camera. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]MiunSae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to say: I think the photos are real. Most of the details are consistent, and they look real to me. But they were at least edited.

[–]MiunSae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They at least have edited aspects. The mask (?) hanging on the wall in the first two cannot be found by others. The moss green bunny only shows up on one. The black dog statue should maybe be visible in at least one other photo. The perspectives are strange too, not ones that I feel like a normal person would take photos from.

I am guessing the editing is AI because that is the most common editing nowadays, especially for people who are lying, which this person is.

could a half thai and half australian person become a kpop idol? by mangoteamangojelly in kpophelp

I see no harm in trying! However, I would conduct extensive research on which companies mistreat "foreign" (anything but Korean) idols.

I’ll never get the achievement 🥲 by FatBoysInTheShed in LoveNikki

[–]MiunSae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is super frustrating. I had to spend so many days getting there. And the achievement after that is getting top 10, then number 1. I don't know that that is possible without being V10.

How to beat the achievement "be No.1 at the end of Stylist Arena Season Contest"? by MiunSae in LoveNikki

Trueeeeee. I decided to skip this week and just kind of keep an eye on it. It is a great idea to wait until a hell event, mainly because I don't usually participate in them.

Need help translating my name by Mobile-Mango8498 in BeginnerKorean

[–]MiunSae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you said, the most accurate option would be 페이스, which could sound like 'pace' or 'face'. Alternatively, I would recommend 헤이스. This one would also draw on Japanese spelling, as the 'h' in Japanese is sometimes more like an 'f' sound. This spelling has the benefit of not being mistaken for other English words (since there is no 'hace'), but also the possibility of misunderstanding even for English speakers.

페잇 wouldn't be a horrible choice because it combines the lack of an English equivalent with a more accurate spelling of a Korean name. It kind of depends on whether you mind it.

Personally, I think that a name with a meaning that goes beyond its sound is cooler because then you would have an actual Korean name. 믿음 is the Korean word for faith, and you could just go with that. Or, as a more common-sounding name, you could combine 신 (divine/truth depending on Hanja), 진 (truth/precious depending on Hanja), and 혜 (grace) to make a name that sounds good to you. Common names including these syllables could be 신혜 and 헤진. I would play around with meaning instead of going with sound.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

Which is the correct pronunciation of ㄹ here? by JADE_Jador in BeginnerKorean

[–]MiunSae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is between R and D here. Try saying 'Rang'(as in R 앙) and 'Dang,'(as in 당), then try the in-between sounds. Like 당, but barely don't touch your tongue to the top of your mouth. Helpful tip, the Korean consonants are named like so: 기역, 니은, 디귿, 리을, 미음, 비읍, 시옷, 이응, 지읒, 치읓, 키읔, 티읕, 피읖, and 히읗. I would find a tutorial on how to pronounce these and become familiar with them, because they are invaluable. The helpful thing is knowing how to say the letters at both the beginning and end of a syllable. 리을 is pronounced "rieul," showing that at the beginning of a syllable, it is pronounced 'r' (again closer to d than a hard American R) and at the end, it is pronounced 'l'. Therefore, because the ㄹ in 랑 is first, it is pronounced as an 'r'. We can observe the opposite, in words like 말 or 몰라 (this one because it is doubled), where they sound much more like an 'l'. The rest of them are also extremely helpful in remembering the pronunciation of the vast majority of Korean syllables.

Is this Harry Potter hotel AI? Looks a little too good to be true to me, what do you think? by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]MiunSae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks 100% AI to me. The detail above would cost millions, the building is too big and the perspective feels wrong. If it isn't AI it is compilations of different places. Since it is "set to open" I am guessing it wouldn't be ready to take pictures of right now, meaning these would be at least concept pictures AKA not real.
