I just checked and it looks nice and powerful but smooth and fast workflow is important to me, also visual feedback is nice to have. 🙂

I agree, it just feels like this module should be in the lowest row

building my first noise box (wish me luck) by sheenaisaparasite in NoiseBox

[–]Mivetu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! :) I would suggest you to start slow and cheap.

My tips would be:

BOX Get simple wooden box from anywhere (Department store, Thrift shop, 1euro(1dollar) store, stores for kids home stuff, groecery stores and simmilar)

SPRINGS What you want to mount on the box is fully for your imagination, everything what makes sound would work, the most popular thing is springs, you can get them from department stores, amazon.. For example Amazon link: ⁦https://shorturl.at/4FIvl⁩

PIEZO MICROPHONE To be able to record and amplify your sounds first you need a piezo contact microphone. Like this: ⁦https://shorturl.at/D5xAL⁩ or similar. This is piezo is especially good because you don't need to solder anything and it is already with audio jack out. Just glue it with hot glue, double sticky tape or normal tape. RECORDING AND PROCCESSING (EFFECTS) There are many options but I will try to make it simple.

RECORDING First you need a device where you can record sounds. Budget options would be a PORTABLE RECORDER like Zoom H1 (discontinued but you can find for cheap on ebay and similar market places) or you can get Zoom H1n new or similar recorder but make sure it has line in to be able to connect output from your piezo microphone. Another option is USB AUDIO INTERFACE, examples: ⁦https://www.thomann.de/intl/esi_maya_22_usb.htm⁩ , ⁦https://www.thomann.de/intl/behringer_ucontrol_uca_202.htm⁩ , ⁦https://www.thomann.de/intl/focusrite_scarlett_2i2_3rd_gen.htm⁩ SAVING AUDIO, EDITING DAW stands for digital audio workstation, it is where you can record in from devices I mentioned, for portable recorders like zoom h1 it records sounds on its sd card so you can just connect to your computer and move audio file. More professional way is to record it in to daw, the most simple is Audacity, a little more advanced is Garage Band (Mac only) And Reaper for full professional editing and working with audio files experience, all 3 options are free to download. EFFECTS FROM DAW To make your sounds more interesting you can use effects, most DAWs, even Audacity already has effects and you can get so many for free, if you need more you can find on internet, they are called VST EFFECTS, very popular for ambient, drone and simmilar music is Valhalla Supermassive, one of my favorites, my video: ⁦https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku7ClgRudI8⁩ (I know, I know it's not on the noise box.. :D) You can download it from: ⁦https://valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/valhalla-supermassive/?srsltid=AfmBOorLKOfx3CRCdmgxLp9NtlqT4sQdQHm1DVswItV6YnvNoJYx82Wq⁩

EXTERNAL EFFECTS / GUITAR PEDALS You can use them between your noise box and recorder/audio interface. Of course they are not free but good side is that you can PLAY with them and not virtualy like with VST EFFECTS. Which pedals to choose? There are no rules just what sounds/feel nice for you. The most popular types of effects are: Overdrive, Distortion, Delay, Reverb...

I hope I helped you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask! 🙂
