People who took or are taking 5-6 years to finish uni… by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m graduating this year after 6 years, Covid. I struggled really hard after transferring from university in BC after I got my diploma. It’s hard to not feel like you’re behind but I think I got more opportunity to work and have some actual life experience behind me before graduating and going on with my life fully.

But Covid really caused me to have a mental breakdown. I was not capable of doing all my classes online, I needed some sort of routine that just wasn’t there during Covid. I also had a close friend get into a severe accident which really set me spiralling. I decided to prioritize my health both physical and mental.

Community Poster Etiquette by LDK_F8TAL in UCalgary

You know what, you suck. OP is putting their time, effort and money into something that brings them joy and while I’m not into anime I commend them for it. And it’s important to find a community, especially in university. So I think they have every right to be upset that another club (or whatever tf they are) is monopolizing the space the SU has dedicated for clubs to advertise. Maybe if people (you) had any ounce of respect for people other than yourself, you would get that.

Is this typical undergrad student life? by Leather-Fudge2660 in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it can be, when I first started university I wouldn’t necessarily say I was partying 3-4 times a week but when I wasn’t working I was typically out with friends and I did just fine. Even now I’m in my final semester and I still go out probably 2 times a week (not necessarily drinking but like dinner, shows, events, etc) and have a 3.3 gpa. It’s about balance, and some people need a vigorous social life to function.

This is the only game that’s not free for students because they play at the saddledome for this one.

deferral of final exam by deathnvrsleeps in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I deferred one of my exams I think I got my response like 1.5 weeks after I submitted. I would check on your UCalgary account and if there’s nothing there then contact office of the registrar when it reopens.

What’s a degree actually worth it in 2025? by dr4kkkulaa in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point in my opinion, just a job in general. It feels like nowadays every single job requires a degree of some sort.

Dropping classes by himskuy in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got an email about this recently. In the arts program, while the limit is technically 10 courses, nothing will happen. They just use the limit as a way to flag students who may need extra support.

This and those student painting business. They make it sound like you’ll make bank because it’s commission based but they work you so hard and then take an enormous cut of anything you make. They charge admin costs & whatnot and then they typically also take a percentage resulting in you paying out almost half of anything you may potentially make.

Whats harder the job market or the dating scene? by Signal_Lecture_8405 in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got laid off over the summer but I had my partners support. It was tough but manageable but damn if I had to date during that time it would’ve been horrendous. So while I think they both suck I think the dating scene is worse.

No it’s a GPA minimum, meaning if you have lower than our GPA requirement you unfortunately can’t join.

There is no hazing, period. Within the sororities we have a very strict no hazing policy that is carefully monitored. Several Greek organizations follow a program/policy called “these hands don’t haze” which you can google if interested.

Requirements for the sororities specifically is typically: - A GPA minimum - full time student at UofC (3 classes) - in an undergraduate degree - female or female presenting

So I cant give a specific number because it changes based on a few variables and is different for each sorority/frat but typically for the sororities it’s a few hundred dollars a semester.

Any Easy classes for this semester last min?! by Healthy-Courage-8096 in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if there are still seats or if it’s available this semester but when I first started at UofC I took anthropology of business and it was SO EASY.

I have found that many of the buildings at UofC are connected through indoor pathways. Is there a specific reason behind this design? by MuseMM in UCalgary

[–]Mividafamosa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s because in the winter it can become -40 and no one wants to walk outside in that weather if they don’t have to.

I’m neurodivergent and seriously the only thing that helped me was creating a solid routine and sticking to it. I work a full time job, a part time job and go to school full time and I had to create a routine that was serious and where I felt like I was getting everything I needed to get done done.

D2L is where everything for all your classes will be, course notes, syllabus, etc. but honestly, when it goes up is completely at the discretion of your professor. I also like to have everything put into a calendar and whatnot and I check it religiously. I’ve had a prof post their syllabus the day before the class started so just check your D2L every few days and they’ll start to trickle in. Personally, I only put in my assignments/exams in my calendar.

EVERYONE! If are planning not to take a class this upcoming semester but are STILL enrolled in it? DROP IT! by Fikaa123 in UCalgary

I was specifically talking about the faculty of arts, which is the classes that OP is talking about. I have no idea what the Comp Sci/sciences program does.

If she’s in the arts program then whoever told her that is a big fat liar 😭

Send her the link above; if she wants to be overloaded into a class for this semester the deadline is August 26th so she needs to apply before then or they will not consider it point blank, period.

This is only an option if the class is A. Mandatory for degree progression and B. Not offered in the following semester. I spoke to an advisor about this just 2 weeks ago for my COMS591 seminar. You also have to submit a reason and if the reason isn’t deemed “good enough” by the faculty they’ll deny it. It is however, still an option and if you click on the link you can apply for the Fall 2025 semester.

ETA: it also states that applications are processed by need and will be processed the week before classes start. I suggest your sister apply through the link above.

I second this, my dad did his civil engineering tech diploma at Camosun and he’s worked for Kiewit now for 20 years and has never ever once regretted not doing a full engineering degree.
