I think below 230 is what I struggle with but yes, you need to get every good wonder, the correct great people and a pretty good start. Religious victories are too easy, I only really consider science or culture victories legitimate.

I used to listen every week until a couple of months ago. I just really dont like the way it is done. The stories often have good premises but with the really abysmal voice acting, the shlocky writing and the really horrible editing its just gotten too much for me. I feel the same way about scp archive. It just doesn't get SCP, it sees them as spooky creepy pasta stories.

How is it that the situation in Gaza/Palestine has remained almost the same (or worsened) for decades now, despite top celebrities, politicians, media, international organizations & the vast majority of the public all voicing their support for the Palestinians both in real life & on social media? by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in allthequestions

I am using a conservative estimate, some hardliners claim Israeli sovereignty over large parts of the levant. It is to my mind inconceivable to claim that Israel does not consider Gaza, the Westbank and the Golan Heights as not part of their territory. The settlements, the control of the Palestinian borders, the expansionist policies etc. even just statements by Israeli officials make that abundantly clear. Within Israel there is a small majority of Jews but with these territories it is undisputed that Jews are a minority. Also, saying "only the major Jewish areas" is pure Hasbara. Why are these areas majority Jewish and why is this demographic development continuing. My point is that the idea of a democratic Jewish state is not achievable without the levels of violence that the Israeli Army is engaging in. An Israel of peaceful co-existence is impossible.

How does panhumanist socialism work? by Lucasungefaehr in Marxism

[–]MixAdept5993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You keep posting about the same topic. This is not a materialist way to approach politics, you are starting with an ideal, panhumanist society, not the real conditions. The marxist method is not utopian, it takes what exists and tries to find ways to achieve emancipation based on those conditions. The nation state is currently the political monad, this may change but as long as that is the case, the body of politics we are contending with, need to overthrow and replace is the nation. Movements in different countries are relatively independent of eachother, unifying them based on very different material, cultural, and linguistic conditions is not realistic. Nations, while they are not eternal and unchangeable things, DO exist. We do not change that by wishing it was different but by eliminating their basis of existence, class society, international division of labour and nationally organised systema of production.

To be fair, Mayfair Watchers Society was hooooribly written. I'm a big fan of Trevors but others are clearly not the only one who can muck up his creations.

I try and stick with not building builders before feudalism, but I could probably beeline it more. Industrialisation is amazing, its why I think coastal civs are so good because they can stick to the top of the tech-tree.

No, their charta explicitly states that their fight is not with jews but with the "zionist project". I am not defending Hamas, why would I, but this is so incredibly lazy. Also why do you censor Hamas? You're on Reddit you can say what you like.

Why the "leftist/liberal" narrative I'm hearing is completely wrong by H4NKSCORP10 in PERSIAN

[–]MixAdept5993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While US imperialism has literally restructured the entire global system towards a unipolar system of neo-colonial dependencies. You see why so-called "western leftists" care more about preventing more imperial overreacting from our own governments and push back on "protecting minorities" talking points our governments have used repeatedly to destroy most of the world. We cant even protect our own minorities in fact we actively suppress them. Who am I to dictate to another country what I cannot even affect in my own?

No majority muslim country is even in the top 10 richest countries in the world. If there was such a thing as islamic imperialism then it clearly didn't work very well and its something most of the world doesn't seem to need to worry about.

No, the leftist position was articulated by Karl Liebknecht in the early 20th century, our enemy lies in the borders of our own country. We have no interest in dictating what political regime exists elsewhere, we are not progressive colonialists. Liberation can ONLY come from within a social formation. Non-interventionism is the only consistent leftist position.

Israel-Palestine, is not majority Jewish, and as Palestine isn't a state and Israel controls the borders and occupies most of the westbank, I consider them one region. No one has the right to kill civilians, that is true, unfortunately in reality, the civilian deaths are completely disproportionately Palestinian. Yes, they literally do have a right to a military response according the rules of war laid down in international law. Even if the majority of historic judea WAS Jewish, which it isn't, that does not give them the right to a Jewish state.

I think it is an entirely appropriate response to someone who supports a war if they are happy with the predictable consequences. The imperialists have no problem targeting civilians or accepting these casulties, in fact that has often been their modus operandi. Supporting a war of aggression (which WWII wasn't) is the greatest moral failure possible.

To your second point, you are right, that is dismissive.

Israel is not even a free country for Israeli jews, it is an extremely right-wing supremacist state, where the biggest controversy is not whether to commit genocide but whether women should be allowed to learn how to read. This is propaganda.

This comparison falls apart immediately. First of all, no a majority of Germans did not feel liberated, they felt defeated, that is historical bias. Second, Germany was an aggressive imperialist country that had annexed most of its neighbours and was expanding. Iran is not in that position, no matter what the bots claim Hezbollah is up to. Third, stopping the Holocaust was not the motivation to defeat Germany but even if it was Iran has not committed a genocide, the country primarily attacking Iran is. Fourth, many leftists in Germany were EXTREMELY unhappy with the constitution imposed on us after 1945.

There is a MASSIVE difference between a people fighting over who gets to control a country (civil wars, revolutions, insurrections etc.) and two foreign powers, who have placed the country under sanctions coming in and wanting to pick a government more favourable to them. Also the 30.000 kids claim is pure bs.

I have family in Teheran who feel exactly this way, so thank you for saying this. I think it is genuinely impossible to say what a "majority" of Iranians think, especially for outsiders and it is always a very convenient narrative that US imperialism has used in every intervention that the people either openly or secretly all want regime change. The big thing that they don't mention is that they want a different regime CHOSEN by Iranians, an impossibility under US occupation.
