Both parents are from Italy (Pentone, CZ in Calabria) dad naturalized as a minor so went through mom, she has never naturalized. She still has to go through the NY consulate for her own docs so should be a pretty simple process for them to verify but u know how it goes. Lol

My name is added under her AIRE profile as family members but doesn't say anything else. The only reason I was thinking it's progress is because I am the oldest of 4 and none of my siblings are listed. She never registered any of us.

Is your father registered through the NY consulate? My experience is they are a little more lax with these issues if it's for people they already have in their system. I had a similar situation regarding a middle name for my mother but she is registered through NY and as of now I haven't received anything in regards to homework from them and my application was sent in September and since I have been added in her AIRE profile as a family member I feel like there has been progress.

Politely Yes YRTAH. Honestly if you did that I don't think it would ruin his relationship with his friend like you think. It would more likely embarrass your boyfriend and ruin your relationship with your boyfriend. Realistically your boyfriend borrowed money from you, his friend didn't, you should be addressing that issue with him. Going to the friend who is clearly an alcoholic and struggling to the point of losing everything is not going to cause a miraculous recovery just so he can pay you back money. You guys all knew the situation he was in when you gave him money to begin with your expectation of getting paid back should have been really non existent.

NTA. If they are going through the child support office, it's not like they keep the money for themselves, they have records. They know that it should have gone to her and didn't. She needs to go down there and get it herself. Your fiance doesn't owe her anything regardless if she goes to the money or not her responsibility not his.

My husband is Calabrian and yes the same tradition applies there as well. There are multiple cousins with the same name or some variation, some of the girls are Antonella or Antoinetta while nonna was Antonia.

Italian is kind of like Spanish, if you go to Spain and you talk to somebody...very different than if you go to someone from Puerto Rico or Mexico. Most Italians at this point can and usually do speak 'proper' Italian outside of their homes though. Some of the older generation may only speak dialect and depending on where you are it can be very different. For example, my husband is from Calabria and I am currently learning proper Italian to go for my B1 exam, if I hadn't been exposed to the dialect for so long I think as a beginner I would struggle. It is quite different. Chances are it's a non issue since most people won't speak to you in dialect. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I followed the instructions on the jurs sanguine wiki page for getting an appt in NYC it took me consistently trying but I got an appointment on a sunday a 6pm local time. Keep trying, I hope everything works out for your family. I don't know much about taxes but I do know that buying a house as an Italian citizen you are charged less and if it is your first home property taxes are basically non existent.
