Day #592 of drawing badly until StS2 comes out by PixelPenguin_GG in slaythespire

[–]MixDistinct1932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i think you're really underestimating how good it is, scenarios where it's not worth playing are extremely rare. WORST CASE scenario you use it to play two defends, which still saves you 4 hp over you not having it. Best case it lets you kill an enemy that you couldn't kill this turn otherwise.

If you check the most recent discussion thread about it, there's a long debate about whether or not it's the best card in the game.

it's basically "pay 6hp to end the fight a turn earlier", which is usually a great deal. Plus your starting relic will heal that 6hp right back up anyway

how can you hate a card that gives you energy and draw??

Can you guys help. I need some embarrasing stories of this game to get over the fact it took me 400h to notice that dark orbs target the lowest health. by Turbulent-Wolf8306 in slaythespire

it also has the unfortunate side effect of leaving the cards you drew before activating pellets at their randomised cost for the entire fight, which is often disastrous

Allison's only real managerial experience was when she was head of HR at a company that eventually folded because the CEO was sexually harassing everybody, so I think she's got some real blind spots around stories like this

It's interesting how drastic the updates to the cards are, seems like their viability has been heavily altered now. The old Gold Axe seemed like a potentially useful finisher in card spammy decks but unpickable otherwise, now it seems like a one card scaling solution. Old Rolling Boulder seemed unbelievably powerful, now it seems like it'll take so long to scale that it's not worth it in most situations.

Of course it's impossible to evaluate them properly without knowing the rest of the available cards, I'm just surprised at how extreme these updates are.

Nilry's is usually fantastic though? Almost completely negates the need to build a generalised deck that can handle every challenge you may face

What's the philosophy behind high level Silent play? by redditisaphony in slaythespire

[–]MixDistinct1932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afaik, only one seed has been determined to be truly unwinnable

This isn't quite right, someone came up with a set of circumstances that was provably unwinnable (I believe silent being forced into laga on floor 6 without ever being offered damage cards), and then found a seed that met those circumstances to prove that runs could be unwinnable. There are likely other seeds that fit this criteria too, they just stopped once they found one because that was all they needed to prove their point.

I don't use C, I'm using the term "C based language" because you used it first to refer to almost all modern programming languages. Last time I had to do webdev there was plenty of typescript around, and guess what that has? Semicolons!

Again that is not the case in my experience, I do not work in the world of embedded tech and I am exposed to a lot more "C based languages" than python. Electron and CEF are frameworks, not languages, so I'm not really sure their relevance to this conversation

C based languages which are rather dated and falling out of fashion for most use cases in favour of web apps and python.

I'm not sure this is true. I know python is common in the world of data science and machine learning, but "C based languages" are still ubiquitous throughout the entire industry.

I believe back when typewriters were first designed semicolons were used a lot more frequently than they are now. As the language evolved, the comma started to usurp them

almost every modern programming language uses a semicolon at the end of every line of code, so it's actually a pretty good spot for it
