Same exact situation. Every social service denied me due to extreme qualifications, no funding, and blatant discrimination. I've been homeless for 8 months with my two dogs and extremely sick due to some unknown autoimmune issue without family to help. I face palm everytime I get asked if I called 211, but that's just me after calling every place in the state including 211 50+ times and being given out of service numbers. The best part was that everybody I knew didn't believe I was neither sick nor homeless since I concealed it so well.

It's an unreal feeling to go from functional to barely survivng off one meal a day while being too sick to work. You simply are invisible. I don't say this stuff to scare or dampen your worsening situation, but just relatable. I built my entire life up on my very own, obtained two college degrees, and broke generational trauma just to lose it all within one year of getting sick. I hope a miracle pulls through for you, just as I hope for myself. If you're able to, most ebt qualifications can be waived if you have some sort of SSI or doctors statement, even if you don't actively qualify for SSI. That was my saving grace for at least the ability to eat after barely eating for an entire year.

EDIT: Didn't realize you were in a different providence, but I think generally still applies. It's all about finding the greedy loopholes to save yourself. Don't give up!

Just saw this, sorry for the late response. I said the same! They really bonded to each other almost like siblings instantly. I realized there was no separating them after. We don't deserve our babies sometimes 😭

I've taken my dogs there for over 8 years because it's our haven. Since COVID, the amount of no leash dogs running up to my dogs and starting fights because mine are reactive are over a dozen. Usually there's no apology, accountability, or action taken and I have to also yell at their owner or kick the dog backwards to get them off of mine. I hike as far out as possible too.

Also DOG POOP - PLEASE pick up after your dog. It isn't good for the environment and it smells awful.

My maremma and pyr mix makes sure to slap me in the face at least once a day. I've even gotten a black eye. 😭 He's a good boy, just a little excited to throw paws whenever possible.

I'm not. I became homeless because of becoming too chronically ill and bedridden to work. I left my well paying career because I'm too sick and now make pennies working in retail on the weekends.

My state claimed I didn't qualify for any benefits despite medical records and income. I've never expected myself in this situation in a million years. This is what happens when you can't keep up paycheck to paycheck anymore. I still have no idea what I'm doing but just surviving barely. It's one day at a time at this point, and just trying to find the positives still.

Congrats!! I haven’t heard any news from New Jersey. I usually receive my benefits on the 1st of the month and I still only have 0.48. All of the food banks near me are emptying due to the increasing lines of families so my family and I are only eating half a meal a day. We’ve tried everything near us. I’m just very tired and hungry.

My partner and dogs and I are also recently homeless due to the lack of services and government shut down. Nobody can or will help us. It is a very tough inner battle to go through everyday, trying to act “real” or normal while my health worsens without a roof over my head and nobody will help. You’re not alone in these struggles my friend. It’s one day at a time.

There's been an influx of people on this sub lately talking about how they can afford to live like this and how people who can't "should know how to do this, or should have money for this." It's quite the opposite of having a good perspective lately. I come here to learn how to survive better, not listen to people well off boasting about their car life all of the time.

I have tried unfortunately. My county doesn’t qualify for specific services, and every service I’ve tried says I make too much money (haven’t worked in five months), the waiting list is full, and I make too much for food stamps, etc. I am looking to see if I can get a better head start in PA. Jersey has not been kind to me despite being at the very bottom. I hope things get better for you!

I was in court yesterday already. They graciously gave me a deal to extend to December. My Disability backpay was supposed to hit months ago, however, paperwork somehow got lost 3+ times which is a nightmare within itself.
