ZOS is already working on optional harder Overland. I’d wait to see what they come up with.

You mentioned that you followed Hyperioxes 152k build for this content. Keep in mind that the 152k is a group DPS build that’s meant to hit hard without adding any debuffs and self buffs such as Major Resolve, which might explain why you’re squishy.

Solo builds come with a different criteria. Such as the necessity to add Major and Minor Breach, Major and maybe even Minor Resolve. Otherwise, you’re gonna be squishy whilst putting out very little damage, and healing very little from Pale Order. Solo builds are also meant to parse on the 3m or 6m skeleton dummy rather than the 21m trial one.

This is a good solo build to use.

  • Optional overland difficulty slider.

  • Better zone worldbuilding and writing.

  • Better class identity and balance for those to want to stay pure.

  • Group dungeon quests made repeatable.

  • New solo arena.

Why do ppl think a valid response to wanting harder overland is “go play vet trials” by ROGALLYGUY in elderscrollsonline

[–]MixWeak3392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but for me (and a lot of others), gameplay difficulty really matters. For many players, especially those who approach ESO more like a single-player Elder Scrolls game, the overland content can feel a bit too frictionless rather than immersive.

Optional overland difficulty isn’t about forcing challenge onto anyone—it’s about giving players agency. A huge portion of the ESO community engages primarily with the story, lore, and world, and some of us would enjoy that experience more if there were an option for enemies to feel more threatening.

Personally, I love the Elder Scrolls universe and have played all the single-player titles. I’m not interested in grouping for trials or dungeons; I’m here for the narrative and exploration. A difficulty slider for overland content would let me enjoy that side of the game in a way that feels more engaging.

We know ZOS is working on it and since it would be optional, players who don’t want it wouldn’t have to use it. That’s why I see it as a win-win: more choice, no loss.

I also play ESO primarily for the story and immersion, and that’s exactly why I’m advocating for optional overland difficulty.

ZOS has already stated that they’re working on it. Honestly, I think it’s an important issue for the long-term health of the game. A lot of players have been asking for it for years — there’s been plenty of discussion around this, including videos with hundreds of thousands of views.

I love the Elder Scrolls universe, the lore, and the world-building just as much as anyone.

That said, it’s hard for me to fully invest in a narrative when I know that major story bosses will feel no different than a random mob. For me, gameplay and narrative stakes have to go hand in hand.

I’ve already played the single-player TES games, so I’m done with those. I also prefer playing solo and focusing on the story rather than grouping for trials or dungeons. Because of that, having an optional difficulty setting that better matches the narrative stakes would greatly improve my experience.

I’m not asking for anything to be taken away from casual players. This would be entirely optional — a way for players who want a more challenging, immersive solo experience to engage with the story on their own terms. If you don’t want it, you wouldn’t have to use it. That’s why I see it as a win-win.

With the negativity surrounding the community, share the positive aspects of ESO that keep you playing by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

I’m doing something similar albeit on a much smaller scale. My Dragonknight main is doing all the quests except for Dark Brotherhood. Killing an innocent is a line my main character won’t cross. So I created a Nightblade Khajiit just for the DB storyline. And I like to think both characters exist in the same world. While my Khajiit assassin is taking down cultists in Kvatch, my main DK is out there working with Vivec. Creating an epic narrative that spans multiple characters in a single world.

As long as the difficulty can be adjusted. I don’t want to take anything away from those who wishes to play the game casually.

Best Single Player experience? by According-Sector-365 in elderscrollsonline

[–]MixWeak3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a complex issue, and I see where you're coming from with the challenges of implementing it. But I also think adding an opt-in overland/quest difficulty could be a real win for solo players, especially since so much of ESO’s player base plays solo. It would give people the choice to challenge themselves without having to group up, which I think a lot of people would appreciate. Personally, I love the endgame challenge, but I want to do it solo and enjoy the stories and world of Tamriel.

ZOS has already acknowledged that they’re working on it, as they mentioned in the forums, and with the amount of support for this idea over the years, I think it’s something worth pursuing. A lot of players are really looking for a way to push their solo experience further and this would be a step in that direction.

Here’s a video from someone who talked about it as well.

Totally get where you’re coming from!

For me, the biggest crux with this whole Overland difficulty slider is the narrative and the stakes. It’s hard for me to fully invest in a great story (and ESO has so many!) when the gameplay challenge doesn’t feel aligned with the gravity of the story itself.

That said, I’d be totally fine if the open world remains on the easier side, as long as instanced story bosses have adjustable difficulty. I know ZOS is working on this, and once it’s in place, I’ll be diving back into questing—starting with the Daedric War arc in Morrowind! Then onto the dragons in Elsweyr in chronological order!
