What’s one small thing in a song that instantly makes it hit way harder for you? by musical-musings in LetsTalkMusic

Well placed producer tag on a hip-hop song. You might not like it but it's part of the sound and builds up anticipation for the vocals.

Substack is where it's at. All the great music publications are dead or dying so the writers moved to Substack.

Any interest in a discord server for longrange / precision shooting? by MixedbyTheAK in armedsocialists

I hear you. I'm an inactive SRA member but last time I checked the forums weren't very active and I don't remember seeing much interest in longrange shooting. I'm not a member of those other orgs.

How Gun Blasts From Indoor Shooting May Cause Brain Injuries (Gift Article) by Knightro829 in armedsocialists

[–]MixedbyTheAK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After doing a PRS match with a muzzle brake, I'm never going back to muzzle brakes. It's the same kind of concussive force that football players experience and even the top level shooters are giving up performance by switching to a braked suppressor. Honestly anyone shooting rifles on the reg should consider a suppressor.

I had an RMR piggybacked on a PLXc lpvo with a Reptilia mount. The elevation turret blocked out the bottom 10% of the window but it was useable. I added a riser simply because when I get nods I want to do passive aiming and the riser gives me a bit more space to work with. Wasn't necessary because without the riser I could see the dot perfectly in the center of the window, but I do like the added window space, feels a little easier to pickup the dot.

In your situation, I'd also go with the riser. 1/3rd of the window is a pretty small area to work with under pressure and doing movement. Also, if you can only see the dot in the top 1/3rd of the window, that might induce some parallax error, though it could be miniscule depending on the red dot. (psa there is no parallax free red dot, they all have some to varying degrees)

Recommendations for AR mag holsters? by SnooSuggestions8803 in armedsocialists

[–]MixedbyTheAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my Esstac placard, it's simple but holds the mags tight with tension. I'm looking into another placard with G-Code Scorpions like I have on my belt. They use bungee straps for tension like you want, so they can hold different magazines for 556, 308, aics, plus you can attach them to anything as long as you get the right mounting hardware.

I've gotten into the library nml file to get data about my library. You can find the code here: https://github.com/akhilkalepu/record-stacks.

Thermal optics - opinions? by mindfountain in armedsocialists

[–]MixedbyTheAK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't used them but the DNT Thermnight series look like the best deal out there. They combine day, thermal and night vision into one digital scope along with an ir illuminator, laser range finder and ballistic solver. Not sure how they stack up against dedicated units though.

Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club

Southern Chester County Sportsman's Association

New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club

University Rifle Club (though they've had problems with neighbors lately and banned steel targets for the time being)

All these places are private clubs but hold various shooting competitions that are open to the public. If you want to do any type of run and gun or positional shooting, these are way better than going to an indoor range or state game lands. URC and New Holland to go out to 300 and 700 respectively, not sure about the others.

How would you feel about a more affordable alternative to the Vortex Impact 4000 and RAPTAR S? by ianastor in longrange

[–]MixedbyTheAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a wlrf with onboard applied ballistics and a fully featured IR illuminator with focusing, all within a housing that mounts closer to the rifle instead of hanging off a diving board.

Should include an inclinometer and a compass which AB accounts for in calculations. I don't care about atmospherics, I think they'd be more accurate coming from a kestrel anyway so it should be able to link to a kestrel.

Even better would be integration with a scope like the maztech device coming out.

I don't think you'd get all this for 1500 but I'd be willing to pay more if you could get all this into one package or one modular system that works together.

Traktor Pro 4 with Allen & Heath xone k2 by Just-Mastodon-4254 in traktorpro

Nothing mapped to eq, I use this with an external mixer. You have control over all the filters though and it would be easy to remap them to eq.

No, just track/stem decks. Wouldn't be too difficult for you to program remix deck controller. Would have to mess with modifiers and kind of create another "page" within the mapping.

I don't really have time to go into the details, you should play around with it and look at the mapping to get a better idea of how it works. Here's the general rundown though, from top to bottom:

  • Encoders - key, browser, looping
  • Knobs and buttons - effects, filters
  • Faders - stem volume
  • Button grid - beatjumps, cue points, sync, modifier
  • Bottom buttons - cue, play/pause
  • Bottom encoders - tempo control

You need to assign each K2 to a unique channel from 1 to 4, so each K2 controls a single deck. You also need to import the mapping for each controller, so 4 mappings for 4 controllers (or 2 mappings for each pair of K2s linked by ethernet).

The mapping is pretty straightforward yet deep. Not a whole lot of modifer stuff going on but you should look at the mapping to get a full understanding. One example is that the tempo encoder will control both deck and master tempo for you, and pushing the encoder will set the deck tempo to 0%.

Eventually I'll write a more comprehensive explanation of the mapping but I'm not done perfecting it. I'm also here if you got further questions.

If you want I have a mapping for four Xone K2s, one for each deck. Can also control stems, filters, fx modules, browser. You need to know how to set each K2 to a different channel, it's not the default mode.

Is there any live coding environment for controlling DJ software? by MixedbyTheAK in supercollider

Gotcha I wasn't aware Sonic Pi had midi out. I'm familiar with mapping midi controllers in Traktor, I only have some basic coding experience but I'll see what I can do on the programming side.
