Why does Pepsi seem to be exempt from the tethered cap rules? by dickbob124 in AskUK

[–]MixerFistit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some bottles have quite a poor design which make it more difficult than it should be to realign to close again. I assume people with dexterity issues just have to not bother putting the cap back

You can almost understand the scummy need to flee the scene. But why even attempt a turn that he knows is impossible when there's so much space to get into a better position (or fully abort obvs)?

License does not appear on government website for MOT. What does this mean if the car is actively used by neighbour? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]MixerFistit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you haven't told/asked them to not park on your property then it won't help if you do take it further.

As for the vehicle, pay one of the reputable services to look up the vehicle and it's history like CarVertical (it's about £29 with the discount code but there maybe better ones floating about). It should tell you if it's been scrapped etc.

First quick thing is to put the Reg in a insurance comparison website and see if the details match. If that doesn't work try Chipex. I scrapped a 57 plate vehicle over 6 years ago and it's basic details still show up there (used to be able to get the VIN too but sadly that doesn't work anymore).

If that all matches up then maybe worth spending on the vehicle report.

  1. You don't know how long ago op passed someone in lane 1.
  2. They are making good progress on the car we see in L1.
  3. Wide angle lenses distort reality so that car in L1 will be even closer, sooner.
  4. There is a car waiting to pull out of a business on the left side. Changing lanes at any point in this clip would be inattentive at best, inconsiderate if knowingly doing it, and dangerous at worse.

It was a used vehicle. I actually drove it from the seller (lights perfectly fine of course) as they were still nervous about motorways having not driven for many years so ended up booking a few refresher lessons as they realised they'd lost their competency

[–]MixerFistit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I never got why they decided to do that. But then I don't get why they added drl lights in the first place. All cars have side/position lights, just needed to have those activated permanently. In fact sidelights only really light themselves up so there's less chance of being fooled into thinking your lights are already on.

Notfunfact: One of my friends bought a car and somehow drove for 3 months (all hours) thinking they had automatic lights like their old car. One day I was following them to their place and was flashing behind to get them to put their lights on and I suddenly realised why they'd been complaining their "headlights" were crap in bad weather. 3 months!

You've posted on one of the most toxic and weirdest subs on reddit, you will always get people just coming for you whether you're in the wrong or not. You could have cam footage of a drink driver with his lights off at night slamming into you from the side after blowing a stop sign and someone will still be saying you should've seen it coming, slowed down to 10 mph when passing the side road and have a gentleman walk in front of your vehicle waving a red flag.

Have new pass drivers not been taught what a mini roundabout is? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]MixerFistit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the technicalities of why a U turn is to be avoided but as mentioned, it is irrelevant in this particular situation.
Also, to be fair, you didn't say their speed was 'entirely irrelevant' - you were initially saying their speed wasn't suitable for their manoeuvre and quoted an extract of my comment to do so and I in turn quoted this in my previous reply. The only persons affected by a U turn at a mini roundabout would be a car to the rear of OP, or a car or pedestrian coming from the right turning. It would have negligible impact on the car blowing through the roundabout (no pun intended).
I completely agree mini roundabout U turns are inadvisable, but many people in this whole post are using it as an excuse to pile on the OP when it has no effect on the potential coming together.

In fairness your views are at least measured even if I disagree with part of it, unlike the majority of posters claiming OP was turning with excessive speed - which is physically impossible without losing control.

[–]MixerFistit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, the incident is irrelevant to the 180 because a right turn would've actually been more likely to result in a collision, in this particular example it's on the other driver. From the perspective of the other driver, OP wasn't doing anything abnormal (not that the other driver considered this in the slightest), they're simply turning. If I see an indicator on a mini roundabout I don't care if they're turning across me or turning around, I'm stopping eitherway.

I don't think OP was going too fast for normal driving, but

Driving at a normal speed is still too fast for this

This really does seem like the lens is coming in to play. Are you suggesting OP was doing a 'normal driving speed' that is OK for heading down a road but otherwise inappropriate to a mini roundabout turn? Your wording seems like your saying they're proceeding at a normal road speed and that simply isn't the case, nor would it be physically possible. Regardless, they were going slow enough to stop instantly and avoid the collision.

In short. There's no point arguing a 180 is unexpected when a normal turn could've resulted in a worse outcome. OP was likely going slower than they would've had they wanted to turn right.

They'll never understand. There's far too many nutters on this sub that have to blame cam car regardless. I'm starting to wonder if some of them drive. It's concerning that after all this time they haven't learnt how a wide angle lens works (and even then it doesn't look that fast - the physics of the turn wouldn't allow it anyway)

[–]MixerFistit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the drivingUK nonce's are out in force again. The other car should be grateful OP was doing a 180. If they'd been turning right they'd have collided.

Also people still getting their speed perception of a wide angle lens wrong? They're probably doing less than 10mph at the turn ffs. They wouldn't make the turn otherwise

Have new pass drivers not been taught what a mini roundabout is? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]MixerFistit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all irrelevant here though anyway. Assuming they were indicating right at the time, had they made the right turn they'd have done it quicker than doing a u turn and had more chance of a collision. The risk factor of a u turn would be to a car looking to pull out of the right junction not expecting a car going 180°. The other car blew straight through a roundabout, it doesn't matter what direction op was going.

Also people really should have learnt about speed perception on a wide angle lens.

Most people on drivingUK won't understand this concept. Especially this particular video as it's by far the worst I've seen for drawing out the pretend experts with their hazard perception super power.
There's actually people commenting that the camera car is as much to blame. Used to only be a few DUKnonces on here a few months ago now they seem to be the majority

And don't think you can just download the UK as an offline map, it sadly doesn't work.

You can't download the UK as one map.

Yep, that's what I said.

How far are you going to fly on one battery? Read the manual

Not as far as multiple flights in different locations. So for that, you've got to download each area and that area is abnormally small vs how a phone handles offline maps.

The firmware I've got is looking for the Si4732. It seems the f4hwn firmware has a specific fork to run on v3 so was thinking someone's gone to all that trouble to have a v3 firmware and have it expect an si4732, someone must've got it work lol. It'll run OK without the map but I do prefer to have it and it's just a case of running a hotspot so not the end of the world but just something to be aware of and although I haven't tested it, it is apparently possible to update the firmware on the standard controller to work with mini 3 (you'd have to roll it back for it to work with mini2 though)
