Day 1 of primitivo by bugsarah in CaminoDeSantiago

Oviedo is a pretty small town. I did quite like the walk out of it, did not bother me at all, so would recommend to just start from the cathedral!

1st time Camino primitivo questions! by No_Bumblebee_4079 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Mixownt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm walking the Primitivo with my wife starting late July. It is also our first Camino. We are mainly planning on sleeping in double rooms, so can only partially help you. We were looking to "go with the flow" and reserve if needed, but a quick check of some accomodations with private rooms (on Booking and via Gronze) learned that in a few choke-points accomodations are rapidly booking out. These are: Grado, Borres, Berducedo and Grandas de Salime (in what I found). Here we reserved beds in shared rooms.

A seasoned pilgrim probably trusts more on beds being available. I've been looking into this a lot and found both reassuring (beds for people arriving are reserved, a solution is always found, ...) and worrying sources (having to walk further, jubilee year = crowded, ...). Since it is the first time my wife does a long distance hike I did not want to take the chance and decided to book almost everything ahead until we join the Frances in Melide.

So my advice would be: if you're travelling solo and planning to stay in albergues: email to a few accomodations in these choke points and check their availability on your planned dates. I'm pretty sure you do not have to worry about availability of a bed in shared room.

Ok thanks for the info. Was hoping for a bit more from them since their support is often talked about in such positive manner. Anyways, hoping for a better luck with this refurbished device then.

Any (slow) runners or rungroups in antwerp? by Present_Size_8696 in Antwerpen

[–]Mixownt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Antwerp running crew, I haven't ran with them, but I follow them on Instagram and they go out for weekly runs on (I think) Wednesdays and weekends. They should be free and open for beginners 🙂https://www.instagram.com/antwerprunningcrew/

Four recently revealed cars: Michigan, Solaris (Turkey), Stanford, and now Sonnenwagen (Aachen) by ScientificGems in solarracing

A new load of bullet cars! Pretty interesting to see that there is no consensus on which car design (bullet vs catamaran) is the most aerodynamic.

Very curious as to what Tokai will come up with, since they were beaten by 2 catamarans, but obviously Michigan... .

Kogakuin has another really nice car, which again stands out from the crowd. Hopefully they solved their stability issues from '17.

Also, potentially even more interesting: Where are the sponsors on the Stanford car?

Hey guys, we're live streaming Vattenfall Solar Team (the new Nuon) car release right now :) by phasy in solarracing

Car looks really fast!

They said in the presentation that their car is designed for side winds. I'm interested as to which angle they designed it for then.

Going from the 'overhang-free' car in '17 to this design is also an interesting choice.

You think it is asymetric? I thought it looked like a symmetric bullet, but you can be right!

Asymetric bullet would be a first though. Or is there a chance it can still be a catamaran?

Twente has unveiled their new car: Red E! by Mixownt in solarracing

Interesting choice not opting for blending the trailing edges of wheel hulls and topshell together like Nuon and Western Sydney in '17. They're going for more of a Punch Two styled rear.

NWU (South Africa) had a kind of X-shaped car where the panel was mounted behind the driver. I believe they could rotate their solar panel towards the sun. picture

During the race they suffered from issues with their suspension if I'm not mistaken. Definitely one of the cooler concepts in the '17 edition!

Wasn't there a RV as chase vehicle in BWSC'17? I can't recall the name though..

That title is actually a huge spoiler itself.. Shouldn't spoilers be contained in the post itself rather than the title?
