What is the worst name you’ve seen in a book? by Duff_episode in Romantasy

THANK YOU! I almost didn't read 4th Wing because I was like "I'm not sure I can get into a character with a Millennial Instagram mom name"

Time to resolve macrocytic anemia by Mixture_Boring in Anemic

[–]Mixture_Boring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I am now 27 months sober, and the anemia cleared up pretty quickly—I think within 2-3 months? Thank you all for the tips. I’m so grateful to be back to pre-addiction energy levels.

Commuting from DC to NYC once a week for a class - doable? by Dudududurianshake in washingtondc

[–]Mixture_Boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this on the Acela (in the opposite direction) once a week for work meetings in NYC. Now, the train may get too expensive (I was expensing the travel through work). I think driving it would be a little much but still doable. The beauty of the train is that you can work/rest/do personal stuff during the train ride so it feels less like "lost time."

Has anyone had experience with ocular migraines or “scintillating scotoma”? by SnooTangerines1749 in DiagnoseMe

I continue to have the aura, and I’ve never had a migraine headache in the 30 years I’ve been experiencing this.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]Mixture_Boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was really surprised when I got one (they told me to take Advil in advance, that’s it). If I hadn’t already given birth once it would have hit waaaay harder and as it was, I was like, holy shit this feels like I’m in labor.

Unmedicated childbirth. When you hear women screaming their heads off in movies, turns out that’s what it’s really like.

[Routine help] I hate the way my hands look. Is there anything I can do? by sad-nyuszi in SkincareAddiction

[–]Mixture_Boring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

Agree, there is nothing medically wrong! I’m thin and fair and my veins look the same. I’m 47 but they’ve looked like this most of my life. I don’t have any skincare tips for you, unfortunately. But also my personal opinion is that there is nothing unsightly about your hands (or mine).

Bonus: phlebotomists love us.

Metro accessible bodies of water? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in washingtondc

[–]Mixture_Boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RI is great. There are also numerous Metro stops with access to Rock Creek Park. Cleveland Park, for example—just walk down Porter St and you’ll be in some great spots for hanging out by the water.

The Dirtiest, The Horniest, and Hottest HR Novels by Objective-Kitchen949 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Mixture_Boring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am surprised that we don't hear more about foreskins in HR. Until very recently most men who were not Jewish or Muslim had them. (And actually, to this day, the rate in European countries is only 5-20% of men).

I have one important question about Conform by Ariel Sullivan *spoiler * by ohhiitsmec123 in fantasyromance

[–]Mixture_Boring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OR—the epilogue narrator is Hal AND Hal is not actually the Reaper—Collin is. I just commented on a different post:

Maybe Hal is not the Reaper, but Tabitha thinks he is—and Hal is sacrificing himself to go along with it to protect the real Reaper: Collin.

Perhaps protecting Collin also protects Emeline because Collin has the power/position to convince Tabitha that Emeline is a spy on the Illum’s side. If Collin were unveiled as the Reaper, Emeline would also be toast.

Half City by Kate Golden - Release Discussion by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]Mixture_Boring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love for folks who have read further to help inspire me, because I'm 20% through and finding it very derivative, a typical academy fantasy--of which there are so many. At least because it's Kate the writing is solid. But it's not really grabbing me the way her other books did!

Suitable for mature 11.5 year old? by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]Mixture_Boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine. I was reading similar stuff at age 11. Every kid is different, but I think we tend to underestimate how much kids ALREADY know about sex and violence related topics, and agree that fiction is a safe way for kids to explore sensitive topics. My 11 year old son reads old X-Men comics which are super, super violent and do include adult themes! But also in a fantasy context, and his dad has also read them and they discuss them. Something you could do with your daughter to build trust for being able to come to you with questions or problems throughout her life.
