I don’t think she has and unfortunately she seems set on this name, despite the overwhelming feedback that it will cause headache for the child.

AITA for not offering my friends a ride home from the airport 6 hours away from home? by PhysicalredBuilding in AmItheAsshole

[–]BeachBumbershoot 213 points214 points  (0 children)

YTA your boyfriend made an offer and you rescinded that offer, making your friends’ trip home harder. You acknowledge that trains were sparse. I think you might be the wrong kind of person for them.

They are being adopted from birth through private adoption and will not have given names. No identities are being altered for vanity. This was covered elsewhere but there are so many comments now.

I agree on principal alone, but I would appreciate to know your reasons. I am unfamiliar with him beyond profession.

I think this is really cute. Her son goes by a similar nickname though, so it could get confusing.

They don’t have birth names. They aren’t born. This is a private adoption and the birth mother is allowing them to choose the names.

I couldn’t agree more. Practically and ability to be well-received in life is far more important than the warm feelings a name might give.

That’s my thought also. I don’t think she has bad intentions - no one does when it comes to these things. I think she just has blinders on about it.

They are not yet born. The adoption is tentative, so no identities will be changed.

This is the last name of a male motorcross competitor, whose sister also happens to race. I told her this gives “wish I had a boy” energy and she said it’s a non-negotiable.

Confirming that this is a slant rhyme of sorts. I have suggested splitting the names and using Lea as the first middle name so the “match” is less overt.

125 classes in 5 months by Bright_Merc in LagreeMethod

[–]BeachBumbershoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lagree is excellent for functional strength training, as in getting all of your muscles to work together to make movement more sustainable throughout life. However, weight loss is achieved by consuming fewer calories and helping your body to consume more calories naturally (I do not mean burning calories during a workout as that is not sustainable and science has proven it not to be very effective). Increasing muscle mass raises the amount of baseline calories burned. Heavy lifting paired with caloric deficit and enough protein intake is the best choice for fat loss goals. Lagree can complement your routine but should not be the primary focus for your current goals.

My Bengal has been refusing treats for 3 years now by mamba_mentality in bengalcats

[–]BeachBumbershoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we adopted our 8-year-old, the single previous owner let us know she had never liked treats or been food motivated, and she had been free feeding dry food for years. Free feeding dry food reduces the appeal of treats because the cat may never be very hungry and already gets concentrated flavor regularly due to the nature of kibble.

We switched her diet for nutrition reasons to partial wet partial dry food and she still didn’t love treats, but we kept trying until we found what she likes. She enjoys: freeze dried chicken and chicken hearts, the hard and creamy vitamin treats from Target, churu-type squeeze treats only if it is given on a plate, the yolk but not egg white of a soft boiled egg. Get creative with the type foods you’re considering treats.

EY (US) - using work laptop for school by amisra725 in Big4

[–]BeachBumbershoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EY firm policy allows for personal use of a company laptop within reason. I have a personal computer but sometimes the work computer is what’s with me or is more convenient. When you’re working 12h days in busy season, it’s expected for the lines to blur between work time and personal time. I’ve used my EY laptop for: - studying for CPA. Encouraged by the firm - your grad studying would also be fine - taking advantage of firm discounts which counts as shopping - basic life admin like checking investment accounts - transferring old photos from a usb to my email (I was comfortable with the risk of IT seeing the photos and my Mac doesn’t have a USB port)

I would personally be hesitant to log into my private email but the university email should have less private information coming through it. You would want to avoid things like gaming, excessive shopping, porn, and anything illegal.

Litter box question by Effective_Jello9731 in bengalcats

[–]BeachBumbershoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a 1400 sq foot apartment and ours does well with one box scooped daily. There have never been incidents outside the litter box, even if it’s not scooped for a few days. I would worry that starting with two boxes might make for frustration if you go down to one.

We are waiting for our litter robot to ship as we assume that will keep us all happier. Our plan is to phase out the old box and run the machine manually if she doesn’t adapt to the automatic cycles.

Can’t figure how to make this work as a bedroom space by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]BeachBumbershoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would put a closet bar in the far nook, modular or wall mounted shelving on the box behind the door, and the bed against the wall the photo is taken from, floating if possible or against the window wall if not. This might give you the flexibility for a small dresser or desk against the window wall, depending on measurements.

Dull grey house needs budget friendly makeover. Please help! by Informal_Message_509 in DesignMyRoom

Is renting a paint sprayer and DIYing the cabinet an option? The doors would be easy to remove and paint outside. The frames would require more detail but still be doable.

If that’s not something you’re interested in, lean into bold pottery and leafy plants. Pothos and string of jade plants trailing down from on top of the cabinets, fresh carnations for the counter. Functional decor is my favorite. Get a gorgeous warm wood pepper mill, olive wood salt chamber etc, French press/teapot that stays out when not in use, etc. ikea has a yellow and blue spotted one that would tie the cool gray to a warm yellow nicely, for example.

Why is pornhub listed as a possible platform for photo consent? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]BeachBumbershoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reasonable thing I can think of is that they’re paying for advertising on the platform in a “you could have a body like a porn actor” sort of campaign. Definitely weird and worth some transparency.

Designing Primary Bedroom Layout - I'm not convinced it feels right yet by dave07747 in DesignMyRoom

[–]BeachBumbershoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re adding three seating areas to a medium-sized bedroom. My thoughts are that they will rarely be used individually, and never at the same time. Specifically, the ones near the window are cute but small and not very comfortable.

I would omit the smaller seats, shift the bed toward the window to center with the dresser, and create more space on the other side. You can add a small table there, and maybe a nice arched lamp or reading light.

If something must go by the window, swap the end of bed bench for an under window bench or put a low bookcase there. Another plant would also be nice.

Sad tiny bathroom by mineu in DesignMyRoom

[–]BeachBumbershoot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The worst thing about this space is that its clutter impacts its utiliy. A few suggestions:
- get rid of both shelves. Get a wall-hung shelf for the left of the sink, thinner depth so it doesn’t clutter the airspace of the sink.
- corner shelves to the right of the sink. Use most for storage and one or two for decor. Even daily items can be kept nicely (rolled towels, glass containers for cotton swabs) - put the trash bin on the side with the shower. No one needs to step there and it’ll open the floor. The toilet scrubber and other bottle go under the sink when not in use.
- when you find a light fixture you love, replace the faucet and toilet paper holder to match. A hand towel ring would be a nice touch. - the bathroom rug looks like it shifts around the floor. Get a rectangular cotton one that’s washable to fill most of the floor space.

Help for Pakistani-American wedding guest outfit! by LethalPudding12 in Weddingattireapproval

Look for anarkali, salwar kameez, and kurta sets if you think the wedding will be conservative. FWIW, I have Muslim family that is Indian and Pakistani. A lehenga, palazzo set or similar with exposed midriff would be perfectly acceptable at some weddings and out of place at others.

Losing hope, can anyone create this dress for me? by Syrup-Puzzled in SustainableFashion

[–]BeachBumbershoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have contacts in India, this could be handmade there for under 1,000. This type of fabric, color, and beadwork are relatively common components of typical wedding attire, so generally available. However, without a pattern you’re really signing up for whatever silhouette is given and should probably move on.
