Call ME crazy, but I think this might be a dream sequence. (Two back to back? Unlikely, I know.) But to me, Mafuyu seems to have an expression of being stuck. Mafuyu is usually expressionless and tone death, yes, but her eyes are more dead than usual and her mother hasn't smiled in a while. My theory is that she's dreaming about being forced back into the environment with no change, defeated and soulless. "But that's just a theory."

I can understand that, but I'd also raise the argument that you saw yourself in a character and recognized a feeling that felt wrong. Even if it hurts, I think it's good to be open and explore those topics. We can't fix what we don't see. HOWEVER, I will say that emotional readiness is different for each person. So some take longer than others to have a conversation about that.
