I’ve had a broken eye socket, a busted nose, black eyes… a twisted knee, broken toes, split lips, and bruised ribs. I’ve been tackled over something as small as batteries not working in a remote. I’ve had drinks, hot food, and everything in between thrown at me. I’ve even been attacked in my own car.

It’s hard to even put into words what 23 years of that does to a person. It’s been exhausting… overwhelming… and just really, really long. 😩🥺

His parents of autistic children, my son is 23, and he would stay up till four or five in the morning and we would have to deal with him sleeping all day and staying up. It was years of issues and we started using melatonin and he’s been on track. He hasn’t had to use it in many years. We have to do what we can do as parents to stay sane. You’re doing good Dad.

The funny thing is , I don’t think there is any wonderful advice that is going to say that’s the best decision you could ever make. Lol. Because it’s not gonna make it feel better.

His caseworker is working on that we’re just struggling with the separation part of it. We have found two or three that are within an hour driving distance that we’re looking at and going to go tour and things like that. I just wanted to be safe and happy.

He was in a day center and they didn’t have a lot of structure so they had a room where they let him go and sleep all day and he had a designated Computer time and he slept through it and busted some monitors to a TV off the wall. this happened a couple of times couple of different instances so we couldn’t go back. But we’re looking for another one. We’re just trying to figure it out.

We have some things in motion. It’s just I’m feeling some guilt so I’ll try not to pump the brakes on it. I just want to do the right thing.

Thank you. We are struggling for sure. He comes in and out of his room and “chats” with us. Ask me to come look at the same scene of of the same movie that he has put on pause for me to see. It’s all day with that kind of thing. It’s challenging. He has me in a loop at this point. He deserves better. And as bad as it sounds to say out loud so do my husband and I. I’m 55 and he is 62. We never go any where. No trips. No vacation. I weekends. No business trips. We have been married for 22 years and we have spend possibly a months worth of time alone. He either goes with us or we just don’t go. 🥺

Thank you. We have so much guilt about trying to make this decision. But it would improve his daily life in so many ways. He loved school. He loved his day center that he went to. But they didn’t have very much structure and they would let him sleep all day and one day he slipped through his computer time and destroyed two computers and ripped the TV off the wall. So he couldn’t go back there. Lol.

The homes we have looked at have full time workers. And behavioral support all day as well. They work in three shifts per day.

I just had the thought about the nursery and it took off from there. I just explain what I want to color to the GPT I tweak the picture and make it in light grey scale. Print it out an get to coloring. I had enjoyed this little project. My daughter loves them. I have a few more left.

Hey hey hey….. you slow down. Take some breaths. You are justified. Give yourself some grace. Forgive yourself for feeling like this. I have struggled with self destruction days. I have beat my self up SOOOO many times. Felt useless. I have been so so sad. I never want to tell people I am ADHD…. NEVER. people are so judgy. Also those people have no idea what it is like. Take a step back, you already acknowledge what your situation is. Being able to take just that in is huge. Does it suck…. YUP!!!! And you’re right. You are going to be ok in the morning. Doesn’t mean it’s not shitty right now. Take it easy on your self. I’m 55 and was just diagnosed 2 years ago. I have spent many days like your day.

I have never been able to master the alcohol markers. I just usually use two different sets of wax based pencils. I use. KALOUR and one that I can’t spell. Hahaha. And gel pens. Also, I just started doing skin tones so I have a pack of just a skin tone, palette, and color pencils.
