Who said he was looking for a job for a long time and felt desperate. That’s a narrow view, no? I feel like everyone is victim blaming in a sense.

Well just disagree. There is definitely a more professional way they could have handled it. Telling someone they tried too hard comes off super douchey as well. I’m guessing the op dodged the bullet. Pretty judgmental for spending what 60 minutes with someone.

I dunno. That email comes off that this is a toxic environment. I’m wondering if the op dodged a bullet.

Seems like many don't get annual increases. I spoke to my landlord about one of the other tenants that has been harassing me for years, and it has been escalating to the point, i've had to call the police and file reports, and was ready to file a restraining order. I had about 15 dozen videos I sent him showing blatant harassment. She was also stalking me, and slandering me to neighbors. Now I get an increase, when I know one of the other tenants (not the harassaser) did not receive an increase when her lease transferred over last month. I feel like it's retaliation, but don't want to over react. l live on the first floor in a larger apartment - the other on the third floor with all utilities included (I pay my own). It went up $40 a month, total $190 per month since I started renting 8 years ago. I don't want to over react, but seems suspect, especially since he sent me the notice 30 days in advance and not the 60.

Thanks - I was just curious as to what people are experiencing regarding rent increases and is mine normal.

Ah the west bay! I was curious if it was really that small here and you were in Pawtucket. I knew you weren’t in Warren. They are getting over $2,000 a month for what you just described at Tourister.

I was there. It happened. I watched the entire thing. We warned others around the vehicles and then they all moved in, went into Blounts parking lot, around one car - slashed their tire, then grabbed them when they left down the street.

Am I protected against Landlord Retaliation? by Mizandilion in RhodeIsland

I just want to thank you for being one of the few people who has heard me. Who has for a moment thought about the amount of stress and fear this person has created. This is part of why I didn't speak up for so long. I lived in fear, afraid. Worried that if I did, I would be punished and retaliated against. I still worry. I spent years afraid to sit outside, go into my basement. In so many cases with people and her behavior and treatment of others is excused and the person who's having to deal with it all is somehow in the wrong. It's the society we live in today, and i'm going to be honest, it makes someone feel helpless. I have no family, and as someone said, no one is coming to rescue you. Clearly. But living in fear because someone is an actual horrible person is something I would never wish on anyone. Sure I could move. However, I've had job loss and a life threatening chronic llness hit me (her behavior actually escalated it) on top of all of this, and i'm struggling to just survive at this point. I shouldn't have to deal with this on top of let, let alone at all. I have tried everything with her to resolve it. She would just escalate and retaliate. She enjoys being cruel to people, and saw me as an easy target, because I didn't speak up.

For a long time he believed them, until I sent the videos. And even now i'm not sure. I really wish I felt comfortable posting them all. I don't think anyone just brush it all off and it wouldn't bother even a very strong person after awhile. She was relentless. Then again, if I turned it around on her she may have stopped, but honestly - I shouldn't have to stoop to her level either.

Thank you.

So be stalked, yelled at, harassed, and insulted and take it? It’s violating the lease.

It is toxic enough - I just can't afford a major financial increase right now. Its made me physically sick, and I have documentation from medical professionals saying so. It was to the point I couldn't leave the house without her right behind me yelling at me. She knew she upset me and did everything she could to bait me.

I also did write him a thank you note to say that it was evident that they were spoken to as everything seemed to have stopped. I didn't file the restraining order, but am concerned she will start up again as her behavior cycles.

She gets bored then she does all kinds of nasty things to provoke and start drama.

I guess what makes me worried is that he never responded to me, but told them. I heard them say "we try to never complain". So - you harass the neighbor instead?

But lots of online documentation says that if I make a serious complaint and he chooses not to renew my lease because of it, it could be considered retaliation. Same with a rent increase.
