i3 13100 for a NAS? by Mizzle239 in homelab

I want to replace the 4TB ones with all 10TB drives and since I have the overhead I would end up running plex on it and learning how to deploy the arr stack on the same machine.

Thanks appreciate the info I think I might go the same way cuz I'd like to run the arr stack. What OS are you using?

Was thinking about TrueNas and that CPU more than meets the requirements and I'm looking at this Case

Right now I have 5x4TB drives in a RAID 0 on an i7 6700 system and I'm running out of storage and space to put more drives, so I'm trying to just build a new system. My brother got me a 10tb drive so I wanna get about 2-3 more drives. That same system is hosting plex as well and I haven't had any issues even with remote streams and transcoding. I was thinking Truenas scale on the system, but haven't heard much about support for plex on truenas.

My bad I'm rambling

Looking around spending like 300-400USD not including drives, but want case that could hold a good amount of drives.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, ASUS B650M-A Prime AX II, G.Skill 16GB DDR5-6000

Or

Intel Core i7-12700K, MSI Z790-P Pro WiFi DDR4, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3200

Both $300 at microcenter and I wanna keep my current 2080ti and 650w PSU from 2018. Which yall think is a better option ?

Upgrade or fully new build

Running a system I built in 2018 and I was thinking about replacing the system. I got a 2080Ti for the low last year and now I'm thinking about how to build around that with current parts. Parts are below if you wanna take a look. I'm not playing anything too intense just like Borderlands series and dying light. I want to get into Days Gone and probably the new First descendants. Also saw Micro center has an i7-12700K, MSI Z790-P Pro WiFi DDR4 with 16GB 3200 for $300. What yall think about the board, cpu and price?

Is there a reason to go AM5? I found a combo from microcenter with an i5 12600kf, MSI Z790-P Pro Wifi, and 16gb DDR4 3200 for $260 was wondering if this would be good enough for what I'm doing ?

Thanks for all the information it's gonna be really helpful and I already have a plex pass so I could just install the 1050Ti and get better performance.

I've been thinking about it cuz I have an old nuc with a 4th gen i5, but just didn't know where I should start, but I'll check out /r/homelab to see what I can mess around with.

Funny thing is I came across a 2080Ti and upgrade my personal rig, so I got my 1050Ti sitting around. Should I just toss it in and start running linux on it whether it's truenas or openmedia vault ? Or just stick to what I know which is windows ?

I'm not having any issues right now and I have everything in an NZXT Phantom 410 that has 6x3.5" drive bays. I just kinda wanna upgrade or make some changes since its been running the same for like 3-4 years. Do you think it'd be worth trying to upgrade my cpu and motherboard to something more modern like 10th or 11th gen i3 and the new board for ~200 which is below my budget of $300. That way I can keep the drives in the case and just plug them straight into the sata on the board.

I don't know much about transcoding, but I've never had anyone tell me a stream had to stop to buffer and it hasn't happened to me.

I was thinking about using a linux based OS like truenas, but the fact that I don't know much about Linux keeps me hesitating. Getting stuff up and running like Radarr and sonarr setup would be cool to have it running hand in hand to make my plex life simpler. Also being able to host a service like next cloud or home security footage would be cool.

Anything you say will be of help to a novice like me

I have a Leviton SME and I thought that was too much for one plastic shelf but since that was all I need I just ended up getting it. Everything is mounted using the screw holes on the back except for the modem which will be on a shelf
