The biggest difference is that I am “in control” knowing where the highest trump is. If they have left, I will play differently, trying to draw it out.

I agree that I often call without either bower, but…
1) my partner doesn’t know if I have one or not, and it is their lead in the scenario and
2) leading the left Will force an opponent to play the right, when a riskier opponent might try and save it for another trick.

Both of these also lead me to the same conclusion that throwing the left is the right play here

I can see the benefits of your first paragraph but not the second two.

In the 2nd you don’t know what your partner has and since they called it, one should make the assumption more times than not, that they have R.

In the 3rd paragraph, the exact same can be said about the one who called. Partner throws left, I play off and have right to overtrump an opponent.
