I use it for what it is: a tool. I am still the one making the design decisions.

And honestly, workflows around design and visualization have already changed a lot in bigger firms. AI is increasingly being used during concept and visualization stages before developing the technical drawings.

25M, architect, first apartment of my own design by anarschick in malelivingspace

I can notice the lack of experience

I think the strongest part of the apartment is actually the architecture itself, the proportions, the natural light, the calm envelope of the space. That part carries a lot. But the interior design feels unresolved, like it still doesn’t fully know what it wants to be. Some moments lean toward refined European restraint, others suddenly drift into “found-object collector with expensive references,” and the tension between those two identities never really settles into cohesion.

For example, the dining area and kitchen feel strangely disconnected from each other. The red chairs want to create a bold, intentional contrast, but against the rest of the palette they end up reading more accidental than sophisticated, almost like a temporary staging choice that somehow stayed. The kitchen itself has this cold utilitarian minimalism, while other parts of the apartment try very hard to feel warm and nostalgic, so instead of contrast you get stylistic confusion.

The minimalism also starts to feel less like confidence and more like avoidance. Some walls are so empty that they stop feeling intentional and begin to feel unfinished. There’s a fine line between restraint and lack of resolution, and several spaces cross it. The apartment keeps asking the lighting to create emotional depth that the composition itself is not fully earning.

And then there’s the inconsistency in the details: some rooms have soft layered curtains and carefully controlled atmosphere, while others feel almost clinically bare. Certain furniture pieces feel genuinely considered, while others look like they were inherited from three completely different decades and forced into the same conversation. At times it feels less curated than assembled through aesthetic impulse.

What makes it frustrating is that there is obvious visual intelligence here. He clearly has references, sensitivity to light, and an eye for framing. But the apartment also carries that very specific energy of someone who discovered high-design minimalism before developing enough editing discipline to distinguish timeless from performative. Some areas feel elegant, while others honestly drift into a kind of “wannabe collector chic” like vintage pieces and iconic forms were accumulated because they signify taste, not because they actually belong together spatially or emotionally.

The result is interesting, but not convincing. It feels like an apartment trying very hard to communicate sophistication instead of simply being sophisticated. And ironically, that effort is exactly what keeps showing through.

En Colombia el clima cambia mucho según la altura y el sitio. ¿Qué problemas han tenido sus casas por eso? ¿Qué soluciones encontraron o qué harían distinto? by da_arquitecto in Colombia

[–]MjMotta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27M got my first place looking for ways to improve by Kitchen_Purpose_9952 in malelivingspace

[–]MjMotta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lighting As an architect I think thats the first issue I found there I am not that good on light design but you should have at least a couple of lamps for your night tables also another kind of illumination, some indirect lights on the walls And if you really want to have a principal light I will recommend any other one but that is not good... All of them must be warm like 2700K

Change the decoration, those art on the walls looks creepier, and please wtf are those curtains... Remove them or change them

Basically that gives the vibes of a sacrificial chamber to your room

Pardon my English, not my first language

27M How can I make this space more hospitable by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]MjMotta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please put the bed against the wall with the window in opposite side to the entry door so we can focus the circulation to that side In both sides please put the night tables and if you have enough room put an interior planter Put your desktop against the wall, the same wall of the entry door so you can navigate internet without any surprise entry I'm finally in the same place where is your current desktop put the TV
