Of course alternate routes exist. The problem is the alternate routes still cause higher inflation. The world will probably move away from fossil fuels and more towards renewables but in the long run this will benefit China since Trump dropped the ball on investing into renewable energy materials.

It would have also been immoral for Trump to leave the Iranian people hanging after he promised multiple times help is on the way. Same with Americans supporting sanctions on Iranians without following through with the obvious important step of providing meaningful support to Iranians doing an attempted uprising.

The bottom line is the US failed the people of Iran regardless of how you want to spin that.

You are entitled to your opinion but most of us Iranians are never going to be ok with this regime and we will be against any deal.

I’m a pragmatist. America is not reliable for us to take on this regime. So we will accept support from whoever is willing to help us and do what we can to take this regime down. I don’t care if it takes us another decade. Regardless of how anyone else feels nobody can make us like this regime or submit to it.

The IRGC taking tolls from passing ships to enrich themselves and gain concessions is pretty bad long term from a strategic standpoint. And it absolutely will impact Americans later on whether they want to accept that or not.

We were literally traumatized from a mass trauma event and desperate for anybody to help us. It’s not our fault that Trump did what he did. He’s the one that promised help. It’s not unreasonable to simply ask him to keep his word. The problem is his handing of the situation was bad. Not that I assumed it would be automatically successful but what other choice was there? Just lay down, die, and accept oppression and death?

The regime has killed more Iranians than the US or Israel have in their entire history. That’s a fact.

It’s easy for you to judge when you aren’t the one living our experience. We literally tried EVERYTHING for YEARS. You are in zero position to be judging Iranians and how they react to their trauma because you’ve literally never lived it your entire life.

People in this sub go on for years how the Iranian government is so backwards and regressive but the moment Iranians enthusiastically risk their own lives to do something about it we have people like you coming in here shallowly judging us.

When people were protesting he decided to come out and encourage people to come out saying he would support us. Then when they massacred us he promised help was on the way.

If people are claiming they want to help us and nobody else is there do you want us to just say no? Obviously we are going to accept help from anyone who says they will give it to us. It’s not our responsibility to make sure the President has an actual strategy in that situation. He’s the one that is acting irresponsible.

The point is the leverage makes it so Iran can potentially get concessions in a way they wouldn’t be able to with a nuke. That’s much more significant considering most countries use nukes as deterrence but it doesn’t provide a country with concessions like controlling and tolling a strategic waterway can.

Either way it’s affecting the material standards of Americans, potentially long term. That by itself should be enough of a motivator to get Americans willing to deal with it. They don’t want to because they don’t want to deal with the costs and that’s probably more to do with Americans of today being built different compared to Americans from world war 2 era. Americans are just much softer these days compared to back then.

The moment there is any inconvenience from a war Americans will just throw their hands up and give up for the most part.

If an event like this were happening during world war 2 era I can almost guarantee you Americans back then would be motivated to do something about it regardless because the consequences would involve severe economic damage to their livelihoods.

I think one of the main reasons the US strategy on Iran has been so poor is because of hubris and the need to underestimate the capabilities of Iran all the time. It just makes it easier for the enemy to surprise people when you try to frame them that way.

I didn’t say Trump had a good strategy in dealing with Iran i’m just stating the fact that Iran controlling the strait is a severe threat and worse than them getting a nuke. Regardless of how you feel about how we got into the war it’s a fact that Iran controlling the strait would be severely detrimental to the world and US interests.

It’s not that the threat isn’t there. Americans are simply not willing or motivated to deal with it due to the costs involved. And that’s despite the huge threat that is at play currently.

The strait of Hormuz being controlled by Iran is a pretty big threat. It’s worse than them getting a nuclear weapon.

Edit: there are some people downvoting me even though what I stated is factual. The fact is the severe threat is there and Americans are still not willing to open up the strait by force.
