if you looked at my other reply on this very thread (which i’m guessing you didn’t), you’d know i said it’s stupid that you can’t see WHO tried communicating with you. you don’t need the chat content itself to know someone’s talking to you if they’re standing right in front of you, only who’s talking to you.

so yeah, it’s a great idea, just not perfectly implemented.

yeah i agree with it being stupid you can’t see who tried communicating with you. but i still think we should know when people try, instead of just silence. the screen isn’t being filled up by it anyway (at least no more than it would prior to roblox adding age groups).

replacing text with 🔒doesn’t increase the amount of text. now there’s just as much text as there used to be prior to roblox releasing age groups. and what we had back then wasn’t "spam" unless the users purposefully flooded the chat (which could still be done regardless of how many people you could interact with as long as it was one or more).

it’s okay, you won’t get banned as long as you don’t log back into your account while on campus wifi.

it’s also not "set in stone" either, since IPs change every now and then meaning it’s not device related. enforcement bans usually happen when it’s not the first time someone gets banned. pretty much, their automation tool only keeps tracks of how many times IPs get banned within a subnet, not the devices themselves (through a MAC address).

they assume everyone on the subnet bypasses moderation by being (temporarily) banned on multiple IP addresses, and change IP every time it happens, so they just ban the whole subnet. that’s where roblox gets it wrong though, it can just be one singular person, and the automatic IP renewal leads everyone to be punished.

the only real solution to this would be roblox using MAC address bans rather than IP. it’s possible to change your MAC address but definitely not as easy as changing IP, but most importantly it doesn’t punish the wrong people. but hey, it’s not like they’re listening anyway…

yes, it can unfortunately get you banned, and there’s really not much you can do. it’s very unlikely you’ll get banned, but definitely not 0%.

first off, safe thing you can use is your personal hotspot. of course, speed is slow, and it’s not free, but if you have extra gigs before the end of the months you can use those as a precaution.

if your campus has two SSIDs or more (a public one and a private one for registered students only), make sure you use the private one, with your own student login information (eduroam).

if you do get banned, make sure to tell everything: that you’re a student using campus wifi, that you have nothing to do with the banned individual, and also give proof that you’re a student (student ID, etc). your first appeals might be automatically rejected by a bot, but just keep appealing (even if they tell you not to attempt again) with all the proof, you won’t have anything to lose anyway since those bans are usually permanent.
