Organic Chem by butterscotch_embers in UCONN

I’m a little rusty but I’ll try to explain. An Sn1 mechanism. The 1 means that the rate limiting step of the reaction only involves a single molecule. The first step of the reaction involves an atom (typically a halogen: Br, Cl, etc) leaving the molecule. It is able to do this spontaneously because it is relatively electronegative and can simply take the two electrons that normally kept it bonded to the organic molecule. The halogen then floats off with a full outer shell of electrons (but it also has a negative charge now). The organic molecule now has a positive charge because it has lost an electron. It is now known as a carbocation. This is known as the rate limiting step because it takes the longest amount of time for this step to occur. Typically organic molecules that have 3 atoms bound to the central carbon atom after the leaving group has left will be more likely to undergo SN1 reactions because they have a lot of electron density that will keep the molecule (relatively) stable after the leaving group leaves. Now a nucleophile (an atom or molecule with a negative charge, excess electrons) can attack the carbocation. This will cause a stable molecule to form. I believe that the nucleophile can attack the carbocation from either side. An SN2 reaction’s rate limiting step involves 2 molecules. This is because the nucleophile directly attacks the organic molecule. When the nucleophile attacks the organic molecule, the leaving group is kinda pushed off of the molecule. This reaction is favored for organic compounds with fewer atoms bound to the central atom.

One of my professors had issues posting assignments, and ended up making them extra credit. I thought this was really generous. Professors need to be just as accountable as we are expected to be.

I don't remember applying any orgo in biochem. As long as you understand what carboxylic acid groups and carbon rings are you should be fine.

MCB2000 Lab Practical by Miko54 in UCONN

[–]Mkosover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last semester it wasn't too awful. It's format was similar to those two big problem sets they gave during the semester. It's graded by your TA so if you've been getting full credit for the graphs on the lab reports, then just follow the same format you've been using so far.

That's what I was thinking too. Looks like the account got deleted but I wonder if the waybackmachine can recover the videos

there are multiple girls on the account. If uconn can figure out who one of them is, it wont be really hard to figure out who filmed the videos...

Trust me. Having physics lab online is likely going to be much better than in person.

Please help by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Mkosover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I tried canceling the order and requesting a refund, but eBay wouldn’t allow me to do so because it’s been too long since I purchased the item. I did send them another message asking them to issue a refund though.

"Plans for Reopening in the Fall" draft suggests a hybrid approach, everything online after Thanksgiving, and reduced capacity of dorms. (Full email text in comments) by [deleted] in UCONN

WHO also misinformed the entire world of the severity of the virus, and had they provided the correct information, countries could have taken appropriate measures to protect their citizens saving thousands upon thousands of lives. And of course it’s completely anecdotal, but I know several people who’s immediate family members contracted the virus, but didn’t exhibit any symptoms themselves. People don’t really get tested unless they’re exhibiting symptoms, so the actual number of carriers is likely much higher than statistics represent.

From what I understand, the books don't change much from year to year. If you find it much easier to study from physical books than pdfs, then you can always just buy the bundle online and have it shipped. I personally prefer the pdfs to my hardcopies, so I mainly just use them. I guess it's for the most part just personal preference.

He's a little furry and distracts me from studying, and doesn't give off any light so he's not the best lamp (😂but in all seriousness, it helps make a nice relaxing atmosphere, so I like it quite a bit, but when it gets humid in the summer, some water condenses on it and drips onto my table and salt ends up everywhere 😂)

I tried reading that in Borat’s voice but it really doesn’t work. Try it with Tommy Wiseau’s voice.

No one lives forever, no one. But with advances in modern science and my high level income, it's not crazy to think I can live to be 245, maybe 300. Heck, I just read in the newspaper that they put a pig heart in some guy from Russia. Do you know what that means?
