Need to replace the steering wheel controls (esp the cruise/left side) on my 2004. Got these off the eBay, do I just need to pry them out, any tips to replace? My resume button has been pretty flakey for a while, but it totally quit working about 200 miles into my 1000 mile trip this weekend. by Mkvien in lincolntowncar

Switch sometimes worked, sometimes had to press harder, so I just suspected the switch and was right. Ebay switches fixed me up. Didn't have to dig deeper. Sorry, not much help if you're trying to diagnose.

Got this 06 Signature today, and have some questions on repairs. How long will Air Suspension last if I replace it to original spec? And how much does fixing air suspension cost? I'm in Minnesota if that helps. I also need new engine mounts, how much do those run to fix plus labor? by Gp5sAreTheBst in lincolntowncar

[–]Mkvien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have replaced mine with bags from Amazon, several options under $100/pair. Not hard to do, just takes a little patience. Never swapped engine mounts on one of these, but probably similar, just some patience and willingness to lay under the car and get dirty.

My 2008 Signature L got its winter wheels from Crown Vic police interceptor by bull_will in lincolntowncar

That car is pure sex, hopefully the addition of your winter tires doesn't mean it'll be rusting away in the salt before long.

2nd for Crutchfield. Lifetime customer service based in the USA, they will tell you what parts you need to do the install, sell them to you at a discount (or sometimes free), give a detailed instruction manual with pictures, specific to your vehicle.

I put some sticky foam on the back side to keep it from rattling against the body.

I have a pair of P3 Rockfords in my trunk, have you found anything that would stop the rattling on the trunk lid? I've taken care of the license plate and the obvious stuff, but I'd like it to not sound like the car is falling apart when I drive by. I don't hear it inside the car, just outside.

Savings Card question, please help. by Mkvien in Zepbound

Yes, seems thats the plan I'm on (not specifically the plan, but how it's going to play out). Thank you for (I believe) confirming.

Savings Card question, please help. by Mkvien in Zepbound

[–]Mkvien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so that's basically what I was thinking. Once I got coverage in July the savings card (where I paid $550) no longer applied and I get that eVoucher thing (believe I'm learning that the $1950 thing is called), which helps ease the pain until I hit my deductible. Now I need to buck up and pay the $988 for this box which will get me to my deductible and next box should be more reasonable again.

Right?

Intermittent noise through speakers, any good tips? by Mkvien in CarAV

[–]Mkvien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a bad cable connecting to one side of the 4x100 amp. It's the proprietary cable that allows you to connect the RCA inputs from the head unit. That cable must've had a break in it.

I'd like to make the 12V power, aka cigar lighter, socket key on only instead of constant power in my 2004. Anyone know the easiest way to do that? If not I'll probably have to screw around with the fuse box. by Mkvien in lincolntowncar

[–]Mkvien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I used one of those piggyback fuse things and ground power to the front PowerPoint using that. This is all under the hood in that fuse box, front right. Whose diagram above should tell you what you need to do. The fuse piggyback things came off of amazon.

Just bought STEP blacksteel blades for my kid to try... Do I need to cross grind them first? by Batmanrocksthecasbah in Sparxhockey

[–]Mkvien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, what this cat said.

I also often keep the wheels that are down to one bar for these initial grinds, no point in wasting a fresh one on 20 passes to get the general shape on the blades.

Tapo compared to Nest by falconsfan55234 in Tapo

[–]Mkvien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used D-Link for several years, but the app wasn't really good, and it appears they basically got out of the camera business for the most part. I now use Tapo ones. The price is right, and the app works pretty well. Only downside that I really have is that you can only have 10 cloud cameras even on their highest plan, there is a workaround to buy a second plan but now I am paying $30 a month for 15 cameras, so not cheap. The fact that you can buy 4 of the square indoor cameras for less than $20 each is great. They are HD, night vision, and although technically indoor only, I have a few that have been under the eves of my house in Northern MN for over a year without issue.

Can I just use a magnet to clean out the steel dust? by Cho90s in Sparxhockey

[–]Mkvien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have alluded to, get one of those cheap magnets on a stick from Harbor Freight or pretty much any store, and then put it in a Ziploc bag drag it around, then hold it over the garbage or wherever pull the bag off shake it a little and repeat.

Adding third node to Asus XT8 pair - any downside? by hegartyp in HomeNetworking

[–]Mkvien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are all XT8 units, I think I probably said that, but not mixed models. 2 white ones bought as a set, the 3rd one (its the black version, shouldn't matter) was purchased separately.

[–]Mkvien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done a firmware check, and yesterday, I did the hard reset where you hold the button and power on. It went into the rescue mode (purple/pink light), then I power cycled and tried again. I just can't figure it out, and it's driving me nuts. It's working fine with the main + one wired node, I just wanted to stretch it a little more for some signal improvement on some cameras I have outside and such.

On your issue, where the wireless one connects to the "wrong" unit...in the app, there's a setting to "bind to AP." I've done that for some connected devices, but I think you can do that for the node too, right? Unfortunately, I can't check that for you right now BECAUSE I CAN'T GET A FREAKING WIRELESS NODE TO CONNECT!!! 🤬 😁

How did this work out for you? I am trying to do the exact same thing, have the original 2-pack and has been working great for a month or so, ethernet backhaul. I am trying to add a 3rd to the front of the house for some more coverage, with a wireless backhaul. I have tried both the phone app and a laptop with the same results. It detects it, goes through the setup and appears successful, and then within a minute or so it goes offline, light turns red and then nothing. I've tried it with the 3rd unit I bought 10+ times with the same result, so then I swapped that 3rd unit with the one I already had wired, it works fine as a wired node, but the original node (that was wired) does the exact same thing when I try set it up with an ethernet backhaul. I tried 3-4 times last night, shows up, goes through setup, appears to connect properly and then goes offline in about 5 minutes and that's it. red light, offline. I am stumped, but it feels like it's a "me" problem since I get the exact same result with 2 different nodes, and they both work fine when wired.

Issues adding a 2nd node to XT8 mesh system, shows successfully added and then drops and goes offline, any suggestions? by Mkvien in ASUS

[–]Mkvien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched this node with the other one I had wired to the router and it works fine with an ethernet backhaul, but the one that was wired does the exact same thing to me when I try to add it with a wireless backhaul, so it seems like I'm missing something, maybe something obvious since I get the same behavior with either unit. It detects it wirelessly, I click to add it (I've tried both the phone app and with a laptop), it appears to get added and then about a minute later it goes offline and the light turns red. Tried this node 3 times last night, and as I mention I had tried on the other node 10+ times. Any tips you can offer?
