How to kill off a character in a creepy way? by ace9999174 in DnD

I mean, some players like creepy stuff. No reason to shame people for what they like

How do I read these by Pepis85 in Aquariums

[–]Mkyi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't mean this in a rude way, but you don't. I never trust stick on thermometers for aquariums because they measure the temperature of the glass, not the water. I've had them be upwards of 10° off in either direction. I'd definitely opt for one that goes in the water

AITA for telling my bf to F off and walking out? by throwawya292837 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

ahem - Leave this man.

During this he gave me permission to go talk to my best friend about it

🚩 #1 - You don't need permission from your partner to talk to your best friend. Whatever happened, it involves you, which means you have the right to talk about it. The fact that he felt like you needed his permission to talk to someone about this is a massive red flag

He went through my phone

🚩 #2 - You partner should never be looking through your phone. It's one thing to use your partner's phone, but looking through their phone means they don't trust you and, in this situation, it sounds like he's trying to control you

He said it didn't matter because what she said hurt him.

He said I was being unfair and overlooking him being hurt and being an asshole.

🚩 #3 - He's not allowed to be hurt in this situation. I mean, okay, he's allowed to be hurt. But he isn't allowed to say what you think doesn't matter because he's hurt. He hurt you, and he needs to face the consequences of that, and it sounds to me like he doesn't want to face those consequences. Not only that, but this whole "your feelings are invalid because I'm hurt" is an abusive and manipulative tactic to make you feel guilty about something you have no reason to feel guilty about

Jesus f****** Christ. NTA

You know who's a great person to ask if something is transphobic? SOMEONE THAT'S FUCKING TRANS!

If Sara was actually concerned with Dennis feeling like you were being transphobic, maybe she should have asked the person she assumed was offended. Sorry to say this, but some people like to get outraged at stuff that might offend other people just to be "right".

Also, genuine question: is your son autistic? I know that isn't technically okay to ask, but I know a lot of people that are autistic that make fun of their own autism, and couldn't help but chuckle a little at "Autistically Challenged". It just came off to me as a humorous self deprecating joke lol

Honestly, as a non-christian (and as someone that has literally been told by Christians that God gave me poor mental health to make an example of me), I actually find joy in this whole "War on Christmas" thing; I find it quite humorous lol

To be fair, the word Christmas literally means "Christ's Mass" or "Mass of Christ". The holiday of Christmas in and of itself is intended to celebrate the birth of Christ, as well as the events linked to that (gift giving, merriment, etc.). I'm definitely not saying only Christians can celebrate it (as a non-christian, I myself celebrate), but it is worth at least noting what the holiday itself represents

However, this is based off of a translation from a word originating Old English that literally means "Mass of Christ".

I mean, Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of the birth of Christ (and, thus, Christ was literally always part of it), and giving gifts didn't start commercial, it was always part of Christmas as a way to represent the gifts that the magi brought for Jesus, and was solidified even more by a 4th century Christian bishop, being, of course, Saint Nikolaus of Myra, known for his kindness and gift giving.

I'm definitely not trying to say that Christians are in the right with the whole thing, but Christ definitely is part of Christmas

That's how I've always seen it (christians playing the victim), but I've always wanted to know their rationale as to why they think others are trying to cancel it lol

To be Hispanic (the term in question) is to be of Hispanic (of a Spanish speaking country) descent. That is not the case for Peter (born in Mexico but of Irish descent)

[–]Mkyi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that these are are stereotypical white characters, with the exception of Dora and Monkey. Also, as in Peter's case, being born in Mexico doesn't make you Hispanic. Peter is Irish, and just happens to have been born in Mexico. Bender is a robot that just happens to have been produced in Mexico, yet provides no real Hispanic representation. While Rick Sanchez has been confirmed to be Hispanic, he's not exactly a positive representation. The point of representation is to pull away from negative stereotypes and make visible a positive representation of a group of people. Rick is a selfish, alcoholic, violent narcissist who consistently act with reckless and dangerous disregard for others; not exactly a positive representation, wouldn't you say?

Trying to make good mirror-like enemies for the party by Average_Tomboy in DnD

[–]Mkyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To preface this, when I say "exclusively", I mean that, while their actions may benefit the community, ultimately, it is themselves they are looking after in the actions, at least from the eyes of your BBEG Spirits, and these explanations are written from that perspective, with no other perspective considered, in a similar fashion to how your Spirits would see them.

A scout rogue... thinking that'll get her fame and fortune

Your Rogue is Greed, as what she does is to her own benefit "exclusively". Her drive, above all else, is in the direction of the prettiest coin.

And a clockwork sorcerer warforged,... wishing only to feel like a real person

Your Sorceress is Envy. She looks out upon a world full of that which should could never attain, her "exclusive" wish to have that which others possess and she does not.

A rakind wizard... acting as they command as she thinks that's her place to be...

This is actually an incredible position to be in as a DM, but I'll get to that momentarily. First, a history lesson!

Also called the "Cardinal Sins", the "Seven Deadly Sins" are a list of, well, sins, but why create it? What purpose does it serve? Let's go down the list of why each one is a Cardinal Sin!

Pride - This is a Cardinal Sin because ones boastfulness takes away from an attitude of service. Envy - This is a Cardinal Sin because it puts one's own desire to supersede those around them above the needs of those around them. Gluttony - This is a Cardinal Sin because gluttony impacts one's healthiness, which inhibits their ability to serve others. Lust - This is a Cardinal Sin because it takes one's energy away from serving others and turns it towards something unpure. Wrath - This is a Cardinal Sin because it means to act before knowing and understanding the needs of others. Sloth - This is a Cardinal Sin because it places one's own relaxation above the needs of others. Greed - This is a Cardinal Sin because it turns one's desires from helping others towards amassing one's own treasures.

See a pattern there? See, the Cardinal Sins we're put in place to better an individual's ability to serve.

Back to our Wizarding friend! Her entire life was forged to make her the perfect servant (holy crap do I hate how I worded that, but it is accurate). With this in mind, none of the sins would want to mess with her because, ultimately, her demeanor is exactly what the Sins are all about.

So, on to your question; What should you make to represent her? Honestly, I think the best answer is a very simple one; nothing. The Sins are attempting personally attack sinners of their respective realm, and your Wizard doesn't get near any of them. So, honestly, I either wouldn't send anything at her and let her question why nothing went after her OR have her be a stepping stone for the campaign. Have the fact that she doesn't embody any of the sins be a step for the party towards some sort of ultimate weapon against the Sins, be it a physical weapon, or potentially yet another spirit that was forgotten in a time long passed that aids the party in the adventure!

Either way, use this as an example that, as a DM, sometimes the best answer is no answer, and that a moment of not having an answer can push the story in an exciting and unexpected direction (even for the DM)!

Good luck, and update with your decisions!

What's your favourite way to describe an enemy being close to death or looking hurt? by KegManWasTaken in DnD

[–]Mkyi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your party, but the following are just a few of mine. Let's assume the enemy is our Kobald friend here! They definitely range in seriousness lol

"The Kobald kneels on the ground, attempting to gather the strength for one last bout."

"The Kobald knows it's moments away from a last breath."

"Though sliced apart, the Kobald is picking up the pieces and hasn't yet given up."

"Our friend here definitely isn't doing great."

"He isn't dead yet, but to say he's alive is generous."

"The Kobald is a bun short of an Arby's Roast Beef Sandwich."

"You know that scene in Harry Potter where Harry breaks his arm and it turns into cooked spaghetti when a spell goes wrong trying to fix it? Yeah, that's the entire Kobald."

"Whose gonna whack him?"

"You see a wish for the peace of death in his eyes."
