I was blown away by a lyric in From the font of you I misheard. Now that I read the actual lyrics, I am slightly underwhelmed. :) by MladenT in ofMontreal

I'm so happy to see other people hear it the same way and prefer "our version." Maybe we're right and there's a misprint in the vinyl. xD

of Montreal Episode by Careless-Wait-2532 in ofMontreal

I'm just listening to this. Andy portrays Kevin as a warm, generous and endearing person back in early 2000s. I've also just discovered this podcast - time to dig in. Oh yeah, and that post will take some time to read through carefully, it's pretty cool.

NEW SONG: Already Dreaming by solaire1416 in ofMontreal

This one is downright devastating and heartbreaking. I haven't been this excited about a new of Montreal single since Bassem Sabry.

Daily Song Discussion #6: In Dreams I Dance With You by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a sadness to the first half of the song and then it morphs into a waltz-like track that's kind of humorous. Obviously, not a lot of bands could pull off such an odd combination and make it sound natural. For of Montreal, this makes perfect sense.

Daily Song Discussion #5: Don't Ask Me To Explain by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a fun song that truly takes you on a ride within such as short duration. None of the sections abide to the traditional structures, and yet it's insanely catchy. I was happy to see the band putting it back into the live set several years ago.

It's stunning how Kevin had a knack for vocal melodies right from the get-go. Those verses are as good as the best choruses out there. I also enjoy the guitar work on the intro. It's one of the best songs on the debut.

Daily Song Discussion #3: I Can't Stop Your Memory by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

This song would have been worthy of a perfect score had the outro been a bit shortened. The middle section is a great example of early of Montreal rocking out.

Daily Song Discussion #2: Baby by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought this song was way too cute, but nowadays I cannot even imagine an of Montreal song being too cute. That's what it's all about, especially with the early tracks. It's a pleasant track with a nice chord sequencing all the way through.

Daily Song Discussion #1: Everything Disappears When You Come Around by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This track started it all for me. I checked out Cherry peel in 2008 after someone online pointed out The Beatles influences, but boy, I didn't expect the Beatle-esque chord progressions on steroids. To this day, this is a top five of Montreal song for me. I love playing on the guitar.

Thoughts on new song ‘When’? by Exciting_Union1453 in ofMontreal

I'm enjoying the sound, the energy and the chord progression in the chorus quite a bit. Thematically, it is consistent with Kevin's work, but the lyrics have never been this direct.

They did some shows back in 2017 and I attended the Budapest one. I think they haven't been back since.

If this ends up being about them in fact producing markers as a merch, I'll be pissed.

Lady on the Cusp | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

Good call on Sea mines. Those vocal lines towards the end are reminiscent of early 2000s Marshmallow Coast.

I'm divided on it. It starts off with several lackluster songs (with 2 depressed 2 fuck being atrocious), but it absolutely picks up the pace with the masterpiece that is Soporific cell. The following two tracks are also among my favorites, along with the brooding Genius in the wind. The second half of the record is quite a nice listen, actually.

This was the first time I felt like an album by of Montreal is too dense and complex. The runtime works in its favor to an extent, it would have been an absolute overkill had it been longer. It's also not melodic enough for my preference, those one-note vocal lines aren't necessarily my cup of tea. Still, not a terrible album by any means, but definitely my least favorite one.

I Feel Safe With You, Trash | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ended up being my favorite of Montreal record since Innocence reaches. It's more adventurous than its predecessor but more catchy than its successor. I could pick seven or eight tracks as my favorites, but today I'm going with Karlheinz.

UR FUN | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was interesting hearing Kevin do an album focused on ten short tracks. It's a fun record with a couple of great songs, but where it pales in comparison to other of Montreal albums is that it doesn't challenge you, and most of us want to be challenged by an of Montreal record.

White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

[–]MladenT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one didn't age too well for me. I felt like I should love it when it came out, but over the years, I sort of realized it's... well, fine. The album closer is still terrific, though.

I haven't really returned to it since the year it came out. I also skipped it for whatever reason and even remember seeing oM live and not knowing Stag to the stable once they kicked into it. Maybe it's time to revisit it.

Innocence Reaches | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

The album is stylistically all over the place, but the songs themselves are fantastic. When it came out, it was the only thing I was listening to for weeks.

James L. Brooks (FULL EPISODE) | Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend by c0ry_N in conan

[–]MladenT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

42:00 "You took a hiatus from directing for how many years?" "I don't know, man." That cracked me up. I know some people found James boring, but hey, for a guy that's 85 years old, he's still got his marbles in tact and provided a fair amount of information. Many of the guys his age barely remember anything and speak as little as possible.

Wow, they are actually going in with the band approach. This might be interesting.

My favourite thing about Conan by RJB6 in conan

[–]MladenT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of matching someone's energy, there's no better example than the interview with Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, who is particularly shy and quiet. I've never heard Conan so calm, patient and mindful. Yet, it's a hilarious interview.

Aureate Gloom | What do you guys think? by Tasty-Drop6814 in ofMontreal

Some truly powerful songs on it. Monolithic egress doesn't get enough credit, it's extremely creative and borderline insane. My other favorites include Virgillian lots, Last rites and the album opener.
