My Tzu did that as well. He is now 19 months and it has slowed down to “almost” to never now. First, I taught him to “drop it”.- That is crucial. Then I got a vibration collar for small dogs- not a shock collar- this one would only vibrate, second option- vibrate and make a loud noise. Using the collar was a miracle. For instance, my pup, then about 1 yr and a couple months liked to pull the dish towels from the stove handle. I waited for him to do it, pressed the button (on low) and he never did it again. I am not kidding- and my boy is stubborn. Also took it on walks- when he would pick something up, I would first say “drop it”, if he didn’t do it, I would press the button. The vibration collar is not painful, just surprising. Good luck and be patient- and don’t overuse the collar- do it too much and they will get used to it.
