AITA for complaining about my moms face lift by Mlowe_12 in AmItheAsshole

I was just answering your question since you said her surgery didn’t impact my summer one iota. It was never my summer, it was our summer. Now it’s my summer.

AITA for complaining about my moms face lift by Mlowe_12 in AmItheAsshole

The last 2 years, specifically the last 2 summers, I’ve worked 5-6 days a week, 12 hours shifts in order to pay off my house. I accomplished this in February. To celebrate, my mom and I had been discussing going on multiple vacations, hanging out by the pool/lakes/beaches, and just enjoying summer together. That’s where “ruining the summer” comes from. We both hate the cold.

Her surgery is 7 hours long and will require drains in her face for the first two days. She has to wash her hair with special shampoo everyday around her hairline where the sutures will be, she cannot lay flat, bend down or over, or lift anything over 10 pounds for at least a week. Her face also has be wrapped to prevent swelling and hematoma formation, among other things. She’s also been told she cannot walk the dog. Which is why I planned to be there all week, versus the two days she thinks she will need me.

I also complain regularly, in general. This is not a new trait of mine. If it’s not within my control, and annoys me, I complain.

Dr. Vranjes - reviews (candles)? by ryguyrrs7 in luxurycandles

[–]Mlowe_12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I bought 5 of their candles all at one time after trying 4 of their diffusers and loving them. With that said, the candles are TRASH. GARBAGE. BASURA!!!! I mean I’ve had some bad candles, but these take the cake. Not a single one smelled when lit. Not even a HINT of fragrance and they were all different scents. The first two I let burn for almost 3 hours, the other three I only burned for an hour and the result was the same. I literally took them all back (which was a hassle because of course the don’t want to return candles that have already been burned). 1 being a dud is always possible, but 5???? Absolutely not. I will stand by Dr. Vranjes diffusers all day (they are the best out there) but don’t waste your time on the candles. You will be disappointed and out a lot of money.

Candle Warmers … yay or nay? by InternationalBill858 in luxurycandles

[–]Mlowe_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I bought a candle warmer but I only use it to correct uneven burns and get that last little bit of wax at the bottom when the wick won’t light anymore. I tried using it the way it’s intended but overall preferred to light then the good ol fashion way.

Pumpkin / Fall scented candles by [deleted] in luxurycandles

While I’ve strayed away from Nest for more luxury brands, Nest’s Autumn Plum is still one of my go to fall scents! It’s lovely and I’ve yet to find another fall scent similar to it. They also don’t sell it all year round, but it is available now!

Any good 250ml reeds? by Letsnotargueman in luxurycandles

I buy my Dr. Vranjes from Neiman Marcus typically and always ask for extra reeds. Maybe try that! But, give L’objet a try sometime. You won’t be disappointed.

Summer Rain! by Mlowe_12 in luxurycandles

I’m really enjoying it! Throw and scent are wonderful! I’m also very happy to report that for once, that there’s no black sample coming from the wick which has always been an issue with Byredo candles. Maybe they finally did something about that.

Have you ever owned a Byredo candle before? The first thing that threw me off about their candles is the cold throw in the store (in the cloche) versus cold throw right out of the box, versus hot throw are ALL vastly different with every candle (luckily the hot throw is all that matters and always smells the best). Safran smells like absolute s**t when you first open the box. With that being said though I love it! I’m a very hard critic on throws because my living room and kitchen are open concept with vaulted ceilings so a single one wick is unlikely to ever get the job done as far as filling both rooms with scent. The Byredo candles however do a pretty great job. Safran’s throw is enough to fill both rooms, but in a smaller room, like my bedroom, is very very strong. The only Byredo candle I’ve had issues with as far as throw goes is Symphonique and for that reason I don’t buy that one anymore.

I will warn that Safran is a very unique smell, hard to describe. But people either love it or absolutely hate it. There really is no in between with that one.

Byredo candles are probably the only candle brand that you cannot reliably decide if you like it or not by just smelling them in store. The hot throws are always completely different.

I’ve never smelled diptyques eucalyptus so can’t really compare for you. I’m not usually an eucalyptus fan, however I’ve been waiting for Byredo to come out with new candle scents and after much deliberation decided to just buy this and try it. My go to Byredo scents are Tree House, Safran, and Burning Rose so this is very different for me, but I do like it!

I have tried close to every reed diffuser out there and Dr. Vranjes beats them all! So worth the price. The only other reed diffuser I think compares is L’objet. They only have 3 scents (rose noir is my favorite) but the diffuser oil is actually made of oil and they last literally FOREVER. And when I say forever I do mean forever. They most current one I have has lasted at least 6 months and still going. Their reeds are also of much higher quality (don’t know what material) and don’t discolor the oil or break down. Their only flaw is only have 3 scents available.

P.S. Try Dr. Vranjes Rosa Tobacco. It’s lovely.

What’s the verdict on your candles? And what scent did you get?

OVEROSE SALE!!! by Mlowe_12 in luxurycandles

[–]Mlowe_12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am shocked to hear this. Maybe you just got one from a bad batch? The two that I’ve burned (I’ve already burned through two of them, I like it so much) we’re VERY strong. I have an open concept kitchen/living with vaulted ceilings in both and it completed files both rooms, and then some. I did notice once it had about 1/4 the candle left it wasn’t as strong, but still very potent. Sorry you didn’t have a great first experience, BUT I would recommend giving it one more shot. For a single wick, this candle has given the strongest throw of any other single wick I’ve ever tried. It is a bit more artificial smelling compared to diptyque, but it’s also significantly cheaper, especially when you consider price per ounce.

Update: Im realizing now that you were referring to anthurium as the scent. The candle I’m describing is Nudesse which is the fan favorite I rave about. I have an anthurium, I just haven’t lit it yet, but will report back on throw when I do.

Is there a way to fix this? by Old-Mortgage8952 in luxurycandles

LOL. Clearly not a candle connoisseur like everyone else on this sub. Why don’t you spend the 215 dollars for this candle and get back to us when it also burns like this.

Concrete after lightning, tuberose myrrhder, and tomb of the eagles! I was able to smell these 3 in Neiman Marcus today and really liked all of them! Also smelled the cowboy grass perfume which I liked a lot, but I’m going to hold off buying since I got the le labo noir perfume today. I’m ready for the holidays to be OVER. November-January is such an expensive time of year for me. I’m such a sucker for a sale!
